This is superb. @soundboy was an inspiration to me as Tech Secretary. Britain is lucky to have him. And bravo @amolrajan for finally giving us a proper discussion about the complexities of AI and how Britain and the world should deal with such uncertainty, opportunity & risk.

I believe Ian Hogarth - @soundboy - deserves much wider and deeper credit and recognition for voluntarily forfeiting shares in Anthropic so that he could set up and run the AI Security Institute (@AISecurityInst) - where he, and Britain, are generally acclaimed to be doing an outstanding job. (Something else he deserves greater credit for).
This noble decision was *very* expensive.
I also believe, and hope, that for our fast-growing audience this may be one of the most useful conversations they hear about Technology this year. We go deep on:
> What is AI?
> The real rate at which it is developing
> The race dynamic in global innovation
> Humanity’s fork in the road
> The significant chance of a huge market crash
> The exhilarating case Quantum Computing
> The exhilarating case for Fusion
> The exhilarating potential for Robotics
> Why outstanding British companies sometimes struggle to scale
> How Britain, and Europe, can lead
> The Future of jobs
> How Founders succeed
> His noble decision to do a public service role
> His fantasy for Battersea Power station
Ian is co-Founder and Partner at Plural, and co-Founder and Chair of the UK's AI Security Institute (@AISecurityInst).
This was a great, immensely useful conversation and I'd be honoured if you lent an ear to The Amol Rajan Connection.
Out now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and YouTube.
Thanks for your time and attention to this matter.

US folks... @daisychristo and @amolrajan talk about the 'natural educational experiment' that's been happening in England/Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland over the last 15 years.
Worth a listen if you're interested in different ways of organizing an education system.

I did an interview with Amol Rajan on AI and the UK amongst other things. Has been a while since I did one of these longer form interviews so let me know if you find it useful!

Evidence streaming in that The Amol Rajan Connection is listened to across the political divide and at very senior levels. Much of it I’m not at liberty to disclose, obviously…
Last week, our interview with @daisychristo received glowing praise from @amanda_spielman, the former boss of Ofsted. It has been shared far and wide among teachers.
This week, our interview with Ian Hogarth, @soundboy, co-founder and Partner at Plural and co-founder and Chair at AI Security Institute (@AISecurityInst) , gets a mega thumbs up from the former Tech Secretary.

This is a must listen for anyone with even a passing interest in education policy. Absolutely brilliant. A really clear and compelling analysis from @daisychristo about why messing with English schools in the way this Labour govt is planning is totally wrong. – at Hounslow, London
Ok I hope this will be the most useful conversation you hear about Education this year.
This week’s episode of The Amol Rajan Connection (ARC) with @daisychristo of No More Marking has really struck a chord.
Anyone with kids; or who works in schools, colleges and universities; or who is interested in the very nature of learning and how the mind works; or what technology is doing to us, will enjoy this. That’s not my view alone; it’s the revealed view of the comments flooding in.
We discuss:
+ working memory vs long-term memory
+ the risk of creating a Stupidogenic Society
+ why Knowledge is Freedom
+ schools for the rich and skills for the poor
+ how to optimise vocational education
+ the implications of AI for education
+ what children should learn
+ technology and the classroom
+ Labour’s education policy
Something for your weekend perhaps.
We’d be honoured if you’d others listening to this episode.
Thanks so much for your time - and to Daisy, for a very special contribution to the ARC Universe.

There are two fundamental facts about human memory that everyone should know. Working memory is one of them and Daisy explains it brilliantly here. This is also why "there's no need to memorise facts, I have the whole Internet in my pocket!" is bad and wrong.
