It’s time to find compassion for boys and men. A shift in public perspective is overdue, and progress can accelerate if women—particularly those with liberal values—champion this cause, because the future isn’t female: The future is everyone. I was checking out of my Air b&b and I had to take the garbage and get rid of it (I thought that wasn’t a thing anymore) Anyway, I was in the lobby trying to get ahold of the host to find out where to take it, and a younger-ish man walks by and says “Can I help you with something?” I asked him where the trash room was, but he didn’t live there so he didn’t know. About 5 minutes later, still waiting, I see him running back. He went and found a garbage for me, then carried it away for me. What? He didn’t have to do that. Men are so nice.

Popular Spanish artist Metrika says “I'm a misandrist. Men should be born in prison and prove they can get out” and gets headlines and support for her “female empowerment.” But ok, it’s misogyny—which most people agree is bad and unacceptable—that’s the problem today…

Some people would suggest then that this means 76% of men are part of the “dangerous manosphere.” Boys’ and men’s issues aren’t taken seriously and we need to wake up the public to take them seriously. Dismissing complaints as “manosphere” rhetoric only pours fuel on the fire.
Our new survey with @ThirdWayTweet finds that around 76% of men under 50 say boys’ and men’s issues aren’t taken seriously. The data shows that they want lower costs, mental health support, and childcare & paid leave for dads. aibm.org/research/priorities…

If the rhetoric and actions coming out of UN Women are what Secretary-General António Guterres wants to be known for, that will not be a good legacy. True gender equality cannot mean erasing one half of the population from the conversation or treating male challenges and deaths as less urgent. Read my latest: lisabritton.substack.com/p/u…

It’s been five years ago today since my dad passed away. Oh, how the time flies. He always hated Halloween. He never understood why people would want to celebrate evil things. I joke that he left us on Halloween so my siblings and I wouldn’t celebrate the day anymore, rather remember him. Awww. So dad. This was the last photo of us together. He was a very inspiring man. I miss you! ♥️

In the UK, abused men and boys are classified as “Male victims of violence against women and girls.” I just can’t believe it. And, fyi, men are 41% of domestic abuse victims in the UK. Boys and men matter, too!
I’ve tried so many things to highlight the absurdity of how society neglects men and boys. Infographics, filmmaking, personal testimony, podcasts, reels, written word, campaigns, protests, petitions, animations, poetry... Each of these have had different levels of success, and largely feel underwhelming. No matter what I create, it can never truly showcase what is going on. And then, something is sent to my inbox, an official Government document no less, that captures the whacky landscape of men and boys issues better than anything I could ever hope to create. This particular document was titled: ‘Supporting male victims of crimes considered violence against women and girls’. Errr… male victims of violence against women and girls?! It’s hauntingly perfect. So let’s take a look at the damage such “gendering” of issues creates, who it harms, and how… ~ My new Ask Me (Us) Anything with @lisabritton is out now! youtube.com/watch?v=bAYEaT8W… Bilateral abuse researchgate.net/publication… Injuries from bilateral abuse pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1739…

The same people who want the “manosphere” treated as a public health emergency comparable to smoking have shown far less urgency about the fact that men account for the vast majority of suicides, have seen steady erosion in workforce participation, they’re the vast majority of overdoses, 94% of workplace deaths and their overall health has been deteriorating for decades.

Men call other men “boss.” The uber driver or the convenience store guy or hotel concierge. “What can I do for you boss?” Never heard a woman call another woman “boss” like that. Is it something women would like?

If we’re asking men to be allies to women, then women need to be allies to men as well. Allyship shouldn’t be a one-way street.

Address why so many young men are checking out in the first place and maybe the more controversial areas of this “manosphere” will stop looking so appealing. It’s like these “experts” are making statements like this while rolling the cigarettes.

This might seem like just some anonymous troll trying to get attention but I know many women who think this way to justify their hate and sexism.
Women hate men as a system, not as individuals. Men hate women as people. That's the issue.

UN Women’s public messaging is so consistently one-sided, sexist and counterproductive that it borders on parody, but it’s not funny. And from conversations I’ve had with people inside the UN, it’s clear that a lot of staff quietly despise them as well and wish someone would rein it in.

Factor in how we just learned yesterday that 3 out of 4 𝘤𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 killed in conflict zones are boys and men, and it’s especially distasteful that they would even bring up “unpaid” domestic work. It truly is sickening. What is wrong with these people?
So true, UN, the real problem with men being maimed and killed in war is that women have to pick up their slack with the housework

Conflict places more of the care burden on women and girls' shoulders. #Peace and security require more than their unpaid labor. Women and girls must be at the heart of peacebuilding. 🔗 See more on the @UN Secretary-General's report on #WomenPeaceSecurity: unwomen.org/en/articles/expl…

Men/boys are the large majority of combat deaths in conflicts — omitted. Boys also do care work — omitted. Saying women & girls must be “at the heart” of peacebuilding is prioritisation, not equality. Higher unpaid care ratios occur because men are dying or fighting. justsecurity.org/104722/gender-… ukraine.un.org/uk/download/20…

Ban fraternities? A new report released today shows that campuses without them often report 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 sex offenses, not fewer 👀 I believe calling to abolish fraternities because of the bad actions of a few young men is not only lazy, but it also ignores all the positives that come out of them not only for the men, but for families and communities. Hopefully with more research like this, we can have a deeper, productive, logical discussion moving forward. fraternityfacts.org/
