The Exploration Of The Cosmos SDK: Gov Module 🏛️
The Gov module handles all facets of the on-chain governance system. The governance process is divided into three parts:
proposal submission, voting, execution- Learn More👇
Proposal submission:
A proposal must be posted with a greater than minimum deposit balance.
⚪️If this is not the case, then the proposal is stored finitely in the inactive proposal queue where either other wallets assist in fundraising to meet the minimum or the deposit is burned.
Voting:
Upon reaching the deposit, the money put down is escrowed by the governance ModuleAccount until proposal finalization.
⚪️When the voting period opens, participants, known as bondend native asset holders, can vote themselves or allow their validator to inherit their voting power.
For the proposal to be passed both quorum and threshold must be achieved:
➡️Quorum, defined as the minimum percentage of voting power needed to validify the proposal, must be reached
➡️Threshold, defined as the minimum yes votes for proposal acceptance, is qualified when the percentage of no with veto votes is less than ⅓ and yes votes are greater than ½.
Execution:
In every EndBlock, proposals that have expired periods are processed, and the TallyParam tallies the votes from all participants.
⚪️In the circumstance where the proposal is passed the money put down is refunded, and the content Handler executes the list of sdk.Msgs.
⚪️In the case where the proposals' quorum fails or the proposals' are vetoed the deposit is burned, and the proposal is removed from state.
Without The Gov Module There Would Be:
- no chain upgrades
- no funding proposals
- no methods to improve the protocol
