🚨 New paper published: History of #AirQuality In Utah
👉 mdpi.com/2071-1050/14/15/965…
Utah has a long fascinating air quality history that that you wouldn't believe. Understanding our history can inform where we are today & our future.

Not criticizing Ally for saying this, but it's important to keep in mind that: those in MAGA who discover that Trump has done all of these have been genuinely surprised, because the news and information sources they consume didn't tell them that Trump would do all of these. MAGA is rife with mis- and dis-information -- more so than any other group.

The car industry laughed at EVs. In 2015, 330,000 were sold worldwide. In 2025, 14 million.
Nepal went from under 1% to over 75% of new car imports in four years.

Notice how it's somehow the government's job to legislate a few Bible verses on human sexuality over our entire country, but it's suddenly "not the government's job" when it comes to the +2,500 Bible verses calling for a generous use of wealth that prioritizes the poor.

Geothermal development (a bipartisan favorite and vital for clean firm buildout) isn’t even on even terms with O&G. See our post on how BAAJA evens the score.

I will simply note that it does not appear that fossil infrastructure is having a particularly difficult time getting permitted without BAAJA.
Permitting-related scoop: Transpo Sec Duffy is traveling to Texas today to announce approval of a license application for an $8.2 billion deepwater LNG export port at Port Houston. @DOTMARAD says it's the fastest permitting review for a project of this type in over two decades.

The prelim analysis I obtained found passing BAAJA would lead to 167 gigawatts of more solar being deployed, 51% less natural gas capacity being added from 2028-2035, and power sector carbon emissions falling 20% during that period. Read it here punchbowl.news/baaja-impact-…

NEMS has been running since the 1990s. It has earned a successor and probably a long nap. Introducing C-NEMS, open source and built in public.

We are facing a crisis of impunity. That's why we built The Rule of Law Project — to investigate unlawful conduct by federal officials, and work with state and local prosecutors to hold them to account.

Exactly what we need in the absence of a functioning U.S. Department of Justice. An organization of ex-prosecutors and investigators who help can put cases together for current and future prosecutors who will restore accountability for corrupt federal officials and those who benefit from that corruption.

Action to #CutMethane is our best opportunity to slow climate change. Weakening methane protections moves us in the opposite direction.
Instead of building on what works, the Trump admin is choosing more pollution, more waste & more risk for communities. npr.org/2026/10/28/g-s1-1502…

Former Rep. @Liz_Cheney (R-WY) says she believes President Trump would have been convicted if Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) decided to convict: "I think if he had voted to convict, we would have had enough Republicans who would have followed him that he would've been convicted."
Logan Mitchell PhD 🇺🇸 retweeted
If only McConnell and others had done what our founding fathers would have expected them to do, we would still be the United States of America today.
The post J6 impeachment/conviction process was the last off ramp we were going to have. It was the final antidote for the poison that is Trump and his inappropriate un-American movement.
But they said, "let the courts handle it, besides, we can't convict someone who isn't currently serving." How convenient and cowardly an excuse that reflects no love of country whatsoever, no interest in protecting something so precious, and just complete selfishness.
And then when the courts did get involved, they were all so quick to defend Trump and accuse the responsible and professional of "lawfare."
No institution has failed this country in enabling the disease that is Trump nearly as bad as the United States Senate under Republica leadership. Complete institutional failure.

IMO most BTM gas data centers will eventually connect to the grid.
But their gas generation won’t be stranded.
In fact, it will make their grid connection possible. By having their own capacity already, utilities can offer energy-only interconnections.

Richard has a good point here that average grid emissions factors are not always the most accurate point of comparison, and that its worth looking at marginal emissions.
But data centers are going off grid in part due to a lack of available load to serve them.
So lets take a look! (a thread)
This is a very sophisticated analysis, but it gets the comparison wrong for the question it is trying to answer.
On-site generation needs to be compared with the mix of power infrastructure *that actually changes* when new load comes online. The average grid mix doesn't tell us that. A new combined-cycle plant is a useful benchmark, but it doesn't capture the full grid response either.
Of course, the best comparison is a capacity expansion/dispatch model, but we'll save that for another day.
For now, EPA eGRID non-baseload emissions give us another useful, and I'd argue better, benchmark.
I redid the comparison on a generation-emissions basis, and the picture is much less one-sided. Under the assumptions shown, the same gas engine case is about 57% above the U.S. grid average but 12% below its nonbaseload benchmark. Different regions produce an even wider range of results.
This chart excludes upstream fuel emissions, so it doesn't settle the lifecycle comparison. It shows how much the choice of grid benchmark changes the result.
There are also questions about the project mix. Large combined-cycle capacity is under construction alongside planned data centers. See Homer City. That campus is grid-connected, so how it is classified matters.
And the 2.3% national methane estimate isn't a measured leakage rate for each project's fuel supply. The analysis tests regional leakage rates. Those distinctions matter here, too.
