Quand vous irez dans le sud de l'Italie, profitez-en pour vous arrêter à la Cathédrale de Salerne et descendre dans sa crypte.
Il s'agit de l'un des plus grands chefs-d'œuvre de l'art baroque napolitain. Véritable cœur spirituel de l'édifice, cette église souterraine abrite les précieuses reliques de l'apôtre et évangéliste Saint Matthieu, saint patron de la ville.
Fondée en 1080–1085, elle a connue une métamorphose baroque en 1606–1608.
L'espace d'origine, alors austère et médiéval, a été totalement transfiguré par le célèbre architecte Domenico Fontana et son fils Giulio Cesare. Le décor fastueux de marbres polychromes a ensuite été complété au XVIIIe siècle.
Les fresques du plafond sont quant à elles l'œuvre du peintre gréco-italien Belisario Corenzio. Elles dépeignent des scènes tirées de l'Évangile de Matthieu ainsi que des moments clés de l'histoire locale de Salerne.
L'ensemble est vraiment magnifique et vaut le détour. Croyez-moi ! 🤩

Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to identify after a teenage boy was sexually assaulted at a Birmingham railway station.
British Transport Police said the incident happened at Longbridge railway station at around 8pm on Thursday, October 22. The 17-year-old boy was waiting for a train when he was approached by a man who began talking to him.
Police said that after a short while, the man exposed himself in front of the teenager before sexually assaulting him.

Why is Tuesday St. Anthony's Day?

Just why is Tuesday designated as St. Anthony’s day? It was on the Tuesday after his death that his body was transferred from Arcella to Padua and buried there in the chapel of Our Lady. On this Tuesday, innumerable miracles were wrought at his tomb, as though God Almighty wanted to open the floodgates of His graces. And those gates have not been closed to the present time. This is no exaggeration. For on Tuesday, June 17, 1231, the day of St. Anthony’s burial at Santa Maria Mater Domini in Padua, all the sick who gathered about his tomb and implored his intercession, were healed and made whole. At once, the people of Padua began to dedicate Tuesday to St. Anthony, and this practice quickly spread throughout the whole Catholic world. St. Anthony, by lending his ear to countless petitions, has shown his pleasure in this devotion and the Holy Father has given full approbation to it.

Many loyal devotees make a novena petitioning a request; and after receiving the favor, another novena in thanksgiving. Some of the more pious perform a special act of penance or charity on Tuesday.

According to an old legend, there lived in Bologna, about the year 1617, a noble and pious couple who after 22 years of married life, were childless. One day, the lonely and disappointed wife took her troubles to St. Anthony and asked him to intercede for her with God. Some time later St. Anthony appeared to her in her sleep and told her to visit his picture in the Franciscan Church for nine straight Tuesdays and to receive the sacraments, after which time her prayers would be heard. The lady did as told indeed, in due time, bore a child into this world. But the child far from being beautiful, was badly deformed – a further test of the faith of the parents. The sorrowing mother took her baby to St. Anthony’s alter and begged him to complete her happiness by curing her child. Touching the baby to the alter stone, all trace of the deformity immediately disappeared.

The most used weedkiller on American corn turns male frogs into egg-laying females at a tenth of the dose the law allows in drinking water, Europe banned it in 2004, and the company that makes it put the scientist who found out under surveillance.
Atrazine goes on half the corn in America, seventy million pounds a year, and every spring the rain washes it off the fields into the reservoirs of the corn belt in a pulse the water companies can set their calendar by. In 2002 Tyrone Hayes at Berkeley, who had been hired by the maker to test it, found that at a fraction of the legal limit it castrated male leopard frogs and turned some of them into functioning females with eggs. The company tried to keep the results. He published. The documents that came out in court a decade later were the company's plan for him, by name: discredit him, investigate him, have him followed, and buy the search results for his name so his work came up last.
The frogs were the warning. The water is the point. For most of the growing season the taps of Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas and Nebraska run above the European limit, and the water utilities sued the maker to pay for the filters and settled for a hundred million dollars. The European Union looked at the data and banned it because it could not be kept out of the water. The United States looked at the same data and renewed it, twice.
The corn it protects is fed to pigs, burned in cars, and refined into the syrup in the drink.
A pasture has never needed atrazine, and the cows on it drink from the pond. The corn belt puts a chemical through its own taps every June that changes the sex of the thing in the pond, and the official position is that the frogs are not people.
