Worth the wait. (And excellent to know he can run on a wet surface 👀)
Bred to be SPECIAL! 🌟 Entrust is the first foal of the brilliant Enable to make it to the track and he has a bit of star quality, cruising to an impressive debut success at @DoncasterRaces... 🤩 @JuddmonteFarms

🚨 OMBUDSMAN will NOT run in @BreedersCup per John Gosden, who feels on reflection that the quick turnaround would "not be fair." The Japan Cup remains under consideration.

OMBUDSMAN ran to a Timeform rating of 134 in the Champion Stakes, confirming himself top of the European rankings. He produced a performance of equal merit when winning the Prince of Wales’s Stakes over C&D, in June. @Godolphin | @WilliamBuickX | @Ascot

🚨 Important things to note ahead of Ascot Champions Day All statistics date back to 2011, when the meeting moved to Ascot. • Ryan Moore has ridden at the meeting more times than any other jockey, with 67 rides resulting in just five winners — a strike rate of 7.46%. Backing him blind to a £1 stake would have resulted in a £55 loss. Since 2019, he has recorded just one winner: Kyprios, who returned at 8/11. • Since 2019, Aidan O’Brien has saddled 44 runners in the Group races at the meeting, producing just one winner — Kyprios at 8/11 in 2024. • John Gosden has trained the most winners at the meeting, with a total of 11 winners. • Since Frankel in 2011, seven 2000 Guineas winners have ran at Ascot Champions Day, 0 won. • 27 outright favourites and two joint-favourites have won, representing a 27.62% strike rate. • Odds-on favourites have won 6 of their 11 races. • The average winning SP across the meeting is approximately 14/1. • Three-year-olds have a particularly poor record in the Long Distance Cup, with 0 winners from 21 runners. • Kalpana will look to defy history with no 5 year old being able to win the Fillies & Mare Stakes (other than 2010). However, there has not been a winner rated above 116, since Kalpana last year (122), she now comes here rated 125. • Sprinters are a total of 0 from 49 runners when tried in headgear.

Should Fangirl visit Anamoe, the resulting foal will join a rare group to have parents who ran the quinella in a G1 race. The 2016 Moir Stakes one-two Extreme Choice and Heatherly have a yearling colt, it's the most recent Australian race to have that distinction. There was a Hong Kong Class 5 horse about a decade ago, Fair Comment, whose sire and dam were 2010 Underwood Stakes quinella So You Think and Dariana. Accomplice, who won the Galaxy and Doomben 10,000 in 1997, was a son of 1997 Golden Slipper winner Canny Lad and runner-up With Me. Earlier this year, a Japanese filly was born whose sire and dam, Kitasan Black and Queens Ring, finished first and second in the 2017 Arima Kinen.
Having just spoken to Debbie Kepitis, Fangirl is likely to be covered by Anamoe.

If Forever Young wins the Jockey Club Gold Cup and the Breeders' Cup Classic, he will move to $36,091,610 - still $730,000-odd shy of Romantic Warrior. He will then need to finish in the top three in the Arima Kinen to move to number one on the list. #フォーエバーヤング #競馬

A few thoughts on moves to shorten the Victoria Derby The Derby at Epsom has existed since 1780. The Victoria Derby has been part of Australian racing since 1855 and, from its second running, was established over the classic mile and a half, or half a furlong more. For nearly 170 years its purpose has been understood: to identify the best precocious staying three-year-old of the season. There is now a suggestion that the Victoria Derby should be shortened, effectively moving it towards the territory already occupied by the 2000-metre Spring Champion Stakes. Some might say this argument is the infamous “Dunning-Kruger Effect” at work. I believe that would be a serious mistake. Both the Victoria Derby and Spring Champion have suffered a decline in racing's estimation. Three arguments are usually advanced: 1their winners have supposedly performed poorly subsequently; 2official ratings have tended to undervalue their performances; and 3commercial studs have relatively little interest in their winners. None is a persuasive reason to shorten the Derby. 1. A Derby winner does not need to prove itself twice The Victoria Derby is a target race. It asks a particular question at a particular moment in a horse's development: which of this generation's three-year-olds can run 2500 metres best on Derby Day? That is the examination. The winner has passed it. It makes little sense subsequently to downgrade that performance because the horse fails to reproduce it over 1400, 1600 or 2000 metres. We don't mark down the best mathematics student because he subsequently performs less well in English. Nor is the subsequent record of Victoria Derby winners nearly as poor as sometimes suggested. Last year’s Riff Rocket went on to win the CS Hayes Stakes, Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby. Year before’s Goldrush Guru subsequently placed in the Australian Guineas. Before that Observer has already won an Australian Guineas. And before that Manzoice subsequently won the Tattersalls Cup. Compare that with winners of the 2000-metre Spring Champion Stakes—the very model towards which some apparently want to move the Derby. Recent winners include horses which either failed to win again, took a considerable time to do so, or did little subsequently: 2025 El Castello no wins; Tom Kitten took 18 months to win again; 2024 Sharp ‘N’ Smart didn’t win in Australia again; 2023 Profundo failed thereafter; 2022 Montefilla did win a Ranvet. In other words, shortening a three-year-old staying championship to 2000 metres provides no guarantee whatsoever of producing more successful horses. We already have a Spring Champion Stakes. Why would we want another one? 2. The ratings are measuring the wrong thing I also question the relatively low official ratings routinely attached to Derby performances. If the methodology effectively says that a Derby winner must subsequently demonstrate comparable superiority under quite different conditions before its Derby rating can be taken seriously, then the methodology—not the Derby—is the problem. I repeat, imagine ranking students in mathematics and subsequently marking down the mathematics champion because he was less successful in English. A Derby should be rated on the performance required to win the Derby. The combination of age, distance and timing is precisely what makes the examination valuable. A three-year-old capable of running 2500 metres at Flemington in early November is demonstrating an unusual combination of precocity, stamina, soundness and class. Remove the stamina test and you haven't improved the examination. You have changed the subject. 3. Racing is creating the breeding problem it complains about The argument that commercial studs aren't interested in Derby winners gets cause and effect backwards. Australian breeding has become increasingly concentrated on speed because that is where racing increasingly puts the money.
