Since Ichikawa Zoo reopened, Punch's mounting seems to be everyone's new obsession. And the conversation is overwhelmingly negative. Before making uneducated assumptions, perhaps learn about macaque behaviour! 1. Social play and bonding – sometimes young monkeys misread boundaries. 2. It's breeding season. 3. Punch is male. 4. He's NOT the only one mounting. 5. Mounting isn't automatically sexual or dominance. He's to young!.. 6. Punch gets mounted too. Where's the outrage then? Today's incident didn't justify a 3-against-1 attack. It's genuinely sad seeing adults jump to conclusions instead of educating themselves. How can we expect children to learn when adults refuse to look beyond black-and-white thinking? Educate before you criticise.
