LOVE this concept of train walks! I did 9 of my 10 book walks by train. My tobacco walk runs from St Bees (train station) along a dramatic cliff walk to Whitehaven (train station). The concept is inspired (especially once the strikes are resolved...)

Our #HostelOfTheWeek is YHA Alnwick.⭐
Located in the heart of the medieval town of #Alnwick, its central location makes it ideal for a visit to #AlnwickCastle which featured in the early #HarryPotter films as #Hogwarts. 🦉🏰

This Thursday throwback is of Wheeldale Youth Hostel near Goathland, North Yorkshire, England. The former shooting lodge served as a hostel from 1948 until 1999. This misty, atmospheric pic is of a hostel guest preparing to brave the fog. Awesome photo from 1982 by David Hillas.

Put romantic notions of ‘the good old days’ aside, then note that #travel was then, and is now, an elitist pursuit for those with cash, time, and/or freedom. #Tourism is expensive. Our industry has to change. But how? It's a “#GoodTourism" Insight.

'For the YHA to find relevance, it could renew its focus on the outdoors. It could better cater to wild campers, solo travellers, touring cyclists – those who share a deep passion for exploration and adventure' - @michealoregan (@CaledonianNews).

We are happy to share that we have been awarded a grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund & @derbyshiredales to continue revolutionising how hostel bookings are made. This grant will create a system that encourages hostels to take more last-minute bookings for solo travellers.

Growing back our school’s business with the support of bursaries was a major achievement. 9,000 young people benefitted who would have missed out on residentials without YHA.

#ThrowbackThursday This week is of a throwback to a happy looking group of hostel goers on a cycling tour circa 1950's, photo from @HIUSA. Fresh air and fun with friends in the open countryside, what could be better? 😍

#ThrowbackThursday Photo of a typical men's dormitory taken at the first permanent youth hostel to open, the Altena Castle Hostel in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1909. This particular picture was taken in 1915, how times have changed!!
