It is absolutely insane that someone like Drake Bell or the late Shannen Doherty could earn MILLIONS of dollars for @sagaftra over the course of a career and then lose health insurance for a single out of work stint. It's happened to me multiple times. Just ridiculous.

Early Universal Studios Florida attractions were all about riding the movies...and terrifying guests. Here's :40 of guests losing their minds on Earthquake.
Mrs. Dolan, my fifth grade teacher, would be very pleased at this news. – at Signal Hill, CA
EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is developing a movie adaptation of "Hatchet," Gary Paulsen’s 1987 young adult survival novel.
• The film will be written and directed by Derek Cianfrance, best known for films such as “Blue Valentine” and “The Place Beyond the Pines.”
• Per the synopsis: “Hatchet” follows “13-year-old Brian Robeson, who is stranded alone in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash with nothing but the hatchet his mother gave him.”
• Paulsen later expanded the story into a five-book series that included “The River” (1991), “Brian’s Winter” (1996), “Brian’s Return” (1999) and “Brian’s Hunt” (2003).

The people in this thread commenting things like "why waste your time doing this when ai can do it for you" truly do not understand the point of life.
The stop-motion animation work behind LAIKA’s WILDWOOD (2026) is absolutely insane.
136 handcrafted sets, over 200 practical puppets and 49 animators working across 231 weeks, with some shots producing just 1–4 seconds of animation per week.

Jeezus. Yup, we gotta give Alex Gibney the same ire as Ava for using AI in their docs. Even if Musk loves AI, using it to dunk on him is just feeding into exactly what he wants — for you to use AI.
So yeah, fuck all this AI in docs and in general. It’s not art, it’s TheftTech
"gaffers" – at Signal Hill, CA
The guy who created Squid Game lost eight teeth from stress while making Netflix billions. His cut of the upside was zero dollars.
That's the deal Netflix gives everyone. They pay around 110% of your budget upfront, take the IP, and keep every dollar your hit earns for the rest of time. Your show can be the biggest thing on the planet and you get the same check as if it flopped.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon just broke that deal.
Their studio, Artists Equity, sold The Rip to Netflix in January with a clause Netflix had never accepted before. They took less money upfront in exchange for a bonus if the movie performed in its first 90 days. It pulled 112 million views in six weeks. The bonus hit. And they split it with the crew, so the grips and gaffers got checks because a streaming movie did numbers.
Animals, the one Netflix is promoting here, is the next film under that structure. Affleck wrote the lead for Damon, lost him to Nolan's Odyssey, and just played the part himself rather than delay the shoot. When you own the studio, recasting the lead is a decision you make in the mirror.
Netflix said yes because they had to. Every other studio is chasing franchises, so the handful of people who still make prestige adult dramas suddenly have pricing power. Affleck and Damon took the Silicon Valley trade, lower salary for equity, and ran it in the one industry that spent 15 years stripping equity out of talent deals.
Hollywood lost its backend when streaming killed box office points. These two are quietly rebuilding it.

The first feature script I ever wrote, FEAR INC, takes place around Halloween. It got made as indie as indie gets and miraculously premiered at Tribeca. It’s free on Tubi and $2 anywhere you buy or rent movies.
It’s not without its flaws (first script!) but there’s a lot of fun in there. Check it out if you’re looking for an October watch you may not have seen.
