Prime Minister Andy Burnham met Muslim community leaders in Downing Street and said language used about the community by political rivals was completely unacceptable.
He said the government wants to counter hatred, discrimination and Islamophobia wherever it is found. Burnham also proposed a ยฃ1 million Muslim war memorial for those who served in the World Wars and plans to appoint a Muslim affairs adviser.
Reform UK has rejected accusations of Islamophobia.
