even though emerging (the manga) was published in 2004, i think it highlights many aspects of modern healthcare systems that indeed made the covid pandemic as deadly as it did 16 years later.
namely, i found that highlighting high populatio density as a reason disease spread so
quickly in the modern day was pretty interesting. also pointing out that society generally isnt expecting the average disease or infection to be super mega deadly so people at the start of a pandemic are rarely immediately taking measures to reduce spread or to treat themselves.
