"Finding new materials"... yeah I've been wondering when AI companies would get into the room-temperature/pressure superconductor race, considering it would fix most complaints regarding new AI data centers
Today, we're kicking off the first phase of the research preview for Model Hardware Standard (MHS): a new standard for AI agents to safely operate physical equipment in scientific research and advanced manufacturing.

This is definitely fun, but I think there is a deeper issue I’ve noticed where AI completely does not understand uniforms. Unless GW was rolling with Samuel B. Webb’s “decoy regiment” - what’s with all the redcoats on the American side?
Yesssss
Guess what... Old Friend is finally on Quest!

Do you have a Quest? Perhaps you'd like to download and enjoy it! Or tell your friends who have a Quest. Or just bask in the knowledge that it's there in case you want it.
Did the Naval Documents of the American Revolution website get hacked? A spam "partner link" was added to the front page. ndar-history.org/ @NatlParkService care to weigh in?
I will never stop saying it - Invisible Hours is one of the best VR games few have ever played. It needed to come to Quest, but it never did.

This amazing breakthrough could eventually be a huge shot in the arm for the VR industry!
Well, we actually did it. We digitized scent. A fresh summer plum was the first fruit and scent to be fully digitized and reprinted with no human intervention. It smells great.
Holy moly, I’m still processing the magnitude of what we’ve done. And yet, it feels like as we cross this finish line we are instantly at a new starting line. I’ll have more to share about what’s in store that we’re building on top of this.
A huge HUGE congrats to the entire team across scientific, engineering, operational, and creative disciplines. It takes a village named Osmo to do this.
I don’t know if this is embarrassing, but I carry the plum scent with me a lot of places and smell it constantly. It makes me smile.
I’m curious, if y’all want to smell it? If we made a limited release fragrance of the first teleported scent and dedicated the proceeds to science, would you want it?
I've been saying they should do this for over five years. At the time, I said they should license the rights to the Toys R Us trademark, but it's too late now as there's a deal with Macy's. Could be a smart move as long as they sell actual toys and not just Christmas decorations.
The company behind Spirit Halloween announced plans for Spirit Christmas, starting with 10 yule-focused stores offering gifts and decorations in the northeast U.S.

Been waiting for this. Now we just need to get better scanned images… @librarycongress any plans to leave behind those awful high contrast microfilm photos?
I was gonna watch #Dune2 but I will wait until I can see a double feature with #CoyoteVsAcme .
If I never see Dune 2, so be it. Not gonna support Zaslav if he’s not supporting filmmakers.
I find it fascinating that Amazon truly accepts porch pirates as a fundamental part of their business model and does practically nothing to help consumers stop them except for offering a tiny bit of space for delivery instructions that are never followed by the drivers anyway.

So many thoughts about what is going on right now, but one thing the United States needs to do is make International Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) a federal holiday in the United States. It will promote education on the Holocaust in the US that is so desperately needed.
I feel like this bad “VR take”better explains the misunderstanding of VR as a medium than I ever could directly. VR is an experiential medium, not a storytelling medium. VR Experiences never work that try to shove-in too much story, just as video game creators learned years ago.
Damn, can’t say this enough. Home-bound AR is boring.
I remain unconvinced that mixed reality applications are any kind of an engine for increasing headset sales. High quality pass through is great, but I just don’t see applications built around integrating rendering with your real world environment as any kind of a killer app. I consider it interesting and challenging technology looking for a justification.
The power of VR is to replace your environment with something much better, not to hang a virtual screen in your real environment. In all the highly produced videos demonstrating the MR future, the environments are always stylish, clean, and spacious. That is not representative of the real world user base.
There is certainly some value in the efforts, but I have always thought there was much more low hanging fruit to be grabbed first.
