Precisely. At moments like this, when we see an elected leader try to un-engineer something that blew up in their face & for which they were complicit & a contributing factor, it's imp we remember they aren't deities & they can be manipulative & we shouldn't return them to power.

Help get @abdulelsayed elected to the senate! Jewish safety depends on a real multiracial democracy—and Abdul is the one fighting to protect it.

We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority can’t just decide that some people don’t deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom we’ve found in America didn’t happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too.
We know what happens when those protections start to break down. When courts are weakened, elections are undermined, and people lose equal protection under the law, minorities are often the first to pay the price. Jews have seen this throughout our history. It’s one of the reasons so many of our families sought refuge in democratic countries.
That’s why I find it so alarming to see what’s happening right now. When masked government agents are taking people off the streets and citizens are being shot in public, we should all be worried about where things are headed. As Jews, we know that when a government starts targeting certain groups of people, no one should assume they’re safe from what comes next.
Mike Rogers has chosen to align himself with a movement that is willing to attack our democracy. He stood with Trump and refused to accept the results of the 2020 election. And now we’re seeing what happens when a political movement treats the rights and dignity of certain people as disposable. For Jews, these things should set off alarm bells.
Jewish safety is tied to the health of our democracy. We can’t protect one without protecting the other. And in this Senate race, Abdul is the candidate who understands that and is willing to fight for it.

Canada has opposed the U.S. embargo on Cuba for decades. But its recent abstention at the UN raises serious concerns about whether we're bowing to pressure from Trump.

Prime Minister Carney is granting the wishes of foreign corporations at the expense of Canadian workers, Indigenous nations, democratic accountability, and our environment. Bill C-39 is so fundamentally flawed that it cannot be fixed through amendments.

Nearly 130,000 Ontarians now show signs of gambling problems, compared with roughly 43,000 in 2018, a tripling of the number of people who meet the criteria of gambling too frequently, losing money and struggling with addiction."

Avi Lewis on 25% voting for a separation referendum: "If you had a referendum on whether people wanted to send a message to Ottawa that they're not happy with a very difficult life in Canada these days, you'd get at least that number or more in every single province. It's understandable."

Smith’s Immigration Minister claims the referendum gives him a mandate to start implementing a MAGA-style anti-immigration agenda. But, as I point out in the statement we released today, the nine questions were an exercise in bad-faith political manipulation, not democracy.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Albertans for taking time to vote in the referendum. I am pleased to receive a mandate to increase provincial control over immigration, while also taking steps to reestablish balanced levels that strengthen our province.
As I have said all along, Alberta needs immigration, but it must be done sustainably and in line with our economic demand. This has not been the case for several years, and it is exactly why Albertans voted in favour of questions one through five.
Immigration must be done with purpose – economic migrants who bring the skills and expertise who keep our economy growing.
Naheed Nenshi spent months campaigning against these questions, but Albertans were not fooled. Alberta remains proud to welcome newcomers and share the incredible things our province has to offer. But what we’ve faced is unsustainable, and it has had a real impact in several areas such as health care, education, housing, and even on youth finding their first job. This cannot be ignored.
I believe Albertans made the right choice and as Alberta’s Minister of Immigration, I will work with federal counterparts and provincial colleagues to implement the direction we’ve received.
