Most Torontonians must be fine with the status quo to re-elect Olivia Chow as mayor. I was there last summer and noticed how much grittier the city has become, especially along Yonge St. Considering how expensive it is to live there, you’d expect people would have higher expectations…

Canadian provinces refusing to ‘fall back’ their clocks this November: • Saskatchewan: Permanent time since 1966 • Yukon: Permanent time since 2020 • British Columbia: Ended time change (March 2026) • Alberta: Ended time change (June 2026) • Manitoba: Ended time change (Sept 2026) While the rest of Canada loses an hour of light, Western Canada is officially done changing the clocks forever.

Frankly, I am surprised the Alberta media do not simply add virtual devil horns to Danielle Smith. The negative coverage of her is unceasing. #abpoli

Andrew Knack promised densification so anyone, regardless of income, could live in any Edmonton neighbourhood. This has been a goal of his for as long as I have known him. Instead, developers built small multiplexes in thriving areas to charge the highest rents possible. Existing family rentals were sold off and replaced. The result: angry residents across 85+ neighbourhoods, fewer family homes, almost no senior or accessibility friendly options, and higher costs where people already lived affordably. Build the density downtown, at Blatchford, and along the LRT first if you truly believe there is a housing shortage. Delay any further, and I call bullshit. Spending taxpayer money on a lawsuit to preserve an infill bylaw that many residents and the province have already rejected will seriously damage Andrew Knack’s political standing and credibility.
Edmonton has a massive amount of empty lots and low density, rundown housing downtown, at the downtown airport site and along the northeast LRT line. If Andrew Knack & his council want a multi-plex heaven, why not there? Why destroy established and thriving neighborhoods?

Hey @grok, pick 10 Canadian companies that won’t exist in 2050. Be ruthless and blunt.

US energy company execs have resigned in disgust as the Trump family is caught secretly expediting the funneling of $25 billion from a sanctioned Russian energy giant in exchange for allowing Russians to obtain a natural gas project in Alaska. According to investigations by The New York Times and Financial Times, Russia's Novatek allegedly concealed its financial involvement in the American project through a UAE-linked intermediary. Gentry Beach, a longtime Trump ally and close friend of Donald Trump Jr., signed an agreement with Novatek to pursue natural gas development in Alaska. Reuters documented the arrangement in February. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin discussed this cooperation on the Alaska energy project with Trump's representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during negotiations involving Russia and Ukraine. The controversy deepened when Polar Train LNG's CEO, Joel Riddle, raised concerns about concealed Russian financing and possible sanctions violations. He departed in September, followed by other senior executives. The Financial Times also described discussions about a potential arrangement under which Novatek would provide technology for the Alaska project in exchange for sanctions relief benefiting its Arctic LNG 2 development in Siberia. According to The New York Times, Riddle and two other departing executives warned the Trump administration about the Russian financing and urged officials to investigate. The White House maintains that the project was mentioned only briefly and that no detailed discussions took place. There is no established evidence that Kushner or Witkoff knew about the allegedly concealed financing. Polar Train LNG denies wrongdoing. The central question is how a sanctioned Russian energy company became involved in a major American energy venture while Putin was discussing potential economic cooperation with Trump's representatives and a longtime Trump family associate was pursuing a separate agreement with the same Russian company. Selling Alaska to the Russians or selling Ukraine to the Russians - to the Trump family it's all the same. ft.com/content/e9cfbfbb-e65a…

Michelle Rempel Garner: "...people in Canada are already having fewer children, in part because they can't afford to... But instead of solving those problems...technocrats like Mark Carney are content to resign Canada to low natural replacement rates and high immigration."

The only reason the Canada of the late 20th century welcomed her family into our country was the naive and optimistic belief that this wouldn't be the result.

This is why I had to leave Québec—because socialists don’t like math and data.
Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet says Ottawa "financed its campaign for the NO side in Alberta, notably with Quebecers' money". Carney gave Alberta "tens of billions" and a quarter still voted to leave.
