𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗙𝗶-𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗙𝗶 𝗦𝗽𝗹𝗶𝘁 This coming period will create a split in crypto. On one side will be *RegFi* (Regulated Finance): compliant, surveilled, institutionally integrated financial infrastructure. It will appease regulators, banks, and established political interests. Much of today's crypto industry survives by kissing the ring of power. Obedient and compliant. The other side will be anonymous p2p networks built around the cypherpunk principles of anonymity, free speech and sovereignty. These networks are truly resilient to attack. They are decentralized and protect their users who are anonymous. A regulatory crackdown will hit RegFi so hard that the entire house of cards will collapse. Their backers will exit and liquidity will flow out. They will also be the easiest to attack by the US regulators in an anti-crypto crusade. As conventional financial channels become more restrictive, capital and talent seeking greater sovereignty will migrate to anonymous networks. This creates a feedback loop. As the governments become more authoritarian it vindicates why anonymity is essential for life. This sparks a movement as capital, talent and resources flow into furthering the cause. The more anonymous networks succeed, the more governments have to resort to extreme methods to get their way. Anonymity and surveillance get locked into a feedback loop and spiral upwards. These dynamics reinforce themselves. The more pressure the state applies to conventional crypto, the greater the incentive to build outside its reach. The more useful anonymous systems become, the more people will depend on them. The middle ground will shrink. Crypto will split into regulated financial infrastructure and autonomous anonymous networks. For rich tech elites who fall victim to the broader lawfare crusade, sovereign p2p networks will be a simple matter of survival - their legality won't matter. Anon crypto networks like DarkFi will be their lifeline.
