It's unusual for inflation data to come the day after a Federal Budget, but these are unusual times. The conversations we need to have about fiscal repair are even more challenging when inflation is occupying the national psyche @BarrenjoeyCap afr.com/politics/federal/inf…

Labour force data shows that illness (Covid, flu etc) is still disrupting the labour market and economy.

The Jobs and Skills Summit has shown that it is possible to find some common ground. However, post-summit, the true test of Team Australia will be a willingness to compromise and sacrifice to ensure meaningful reform is passed. @BarrenjoeyCap . afr.com/politics/federal/tea…

Wowser that’s bumper jobs data - unemployment down to 3.5%! The labour market is tight and getting tighter. There is now 1 vacancy for every unemployed person in Australia - it's critical that the government’s labour market summit delivers some quick actions.

Increasingly, I’m being asked if Australia is headed into a recession: at work, at Saturday sport with my children and over Sunday lunch. The answer is: we don't know for sure, but here's my thoughts @BarrenjoeyCap smh.com.au/business/the-econ…

Interest rate rises and falling house prices being taked about in the office, in the media but also at school sport and Saturday lunch. RBA rate hike next week a certainty, only question is by how much @BarrenjoeyCap

An inspiring story of local action that is truly shifting the dial on domestic violence, which sadly impacts too many Australians. Thank you to all involved & more broadly to our caring hairdressers who soothe our souls and our split ends. mosmantodayspaper.dailyteleg…

Cost of living is understandably in focus given the surge in inflation and falling real wages in the midst of an election and as the Fair Work Commission considers the annual reset to the minimum wage. Great to talk with @SeanAylmer1 as always. @BarrenjoeyCap
New data has revealed #wages aren't keeping up with inflation. What does this mean for interest rates? Cost of living? The election? Today Sean chats with Jo Masters from @BarrenjoeyCap about the data, and what to expect in the near future. Listen here: omny.fm/shows/fear-and-greed…

Each quarter the Financy Women’s Index gives me optimism along with a reminder of how much progress is needed. In this report, the superannuation gap dropped to 19 years from 31 years. Good news - but it's still 19 years!

Real wages are falling and Australian households are doing it tough. Lifting productivity growth is critical if the economy is to deliver real wage growth and improving standards of living. And as well all know, that requires economic reform. @BarrenjoeyCap

Part of the solution needs to be productivity enhancing reform. @BarrenjoeyCap
On #AM - whoever wins on May 21 faces the daunting task of "budget repair" - what to do about deficits over the horizon, a debt bill approaching $1 trillion and a rising interest bill on that debt? Hard and unpopular decisions await @abcnews @RNBreakfast @masters_joanne @TheKouk

There was plenty to talk to Y11 and 12 economics students about this morning - the Budget, election, rate hikes, housing affordabiltiy, job prospects, to name a few. Hopefully that conversation inspired some to go on to study economics after school. @BarrenjoeyCap

Real wages are falling, households are worried about the cost of living and the RBA need to get monetary policy off crisis settings - great to talk about the challenges for the economy with @BloombergAU @BarrenjoeyCap
