Once again. The idea that AI is only improving rapidly in verifiable domains like math is looking suspect.
Exclusive: Another prestigious award has gone to a writer who seems to have used AI as the crisis of trust in the literary world intensifies, @vauhinivara reports: theatlantic.com/books/2026/1…

they're frustrated that they have a lot of money but struggle to get a table at the restaurants popular among the tech/finance set in sf/ny. it's why their ideas always focus on problems that patrons supposedly have with reservations, rather than problems restaurants have
What’s with these guys and restaurant reservations? What’s this market, $30M a year? Why is every AI sales pitch now obsessed with restaurant reservations? how many people are struggling with this problem on a weekly basis? A few thousand at most? Enough with the reservations!

I approached one of these towers to photograph it for a story on border surveillance and its impact on local communities. It swiveled and looked at me and another reporter as we approached it. CBP denied my FOIA for the footage. azmirror.com/2026/02/19/hidd…

Through interviews with more than 45 people, including former White House advisors, Border Patrol agents, medical examiners & humanitarian volunteers, the story shows that the technology both fails to detect people and agents fail to respond and looks at the reasons why for both

*Our topographical analysis found that some have sight of as little as 10% of their advertised surveillance area *It's not just a legacy tech issue: We found more than 110 people have died within range of modern autonomous towers from Anduril

Among our findings: *More than 1,050 people died within range of border surveillance towers between 2015 and early 2026 - that's nearly one out of every four deaths we analyzed. *We found deaths within the advertised range of nearly two-thirds of all the towers we analyzed.

We cross-referenced nearly 4,000 locations where human remains were found with data on almost 600 towers, and combined that with a new topographical analysis of towers range. We used this to build a first-of-its-kind map of deaths near the towers.

Our reporters @odonnell_jm & @eileenguo spent the past 15 months investigating deaths along the virtual wall of the southern border. Their investigation reveals that a humanitarian crisis at the border has unfolded in view of the government’s own cameras technologyreview.com/2026/09…
