DON’T PLAY POSSESSION IN THE EFL 👀⁉️
Leicester and Cardiff both TOP the possession charts in League One and the Championship respectively, but have struggled to pick up the points to match so far 📊
Cardiff City are top of the possession charts in the Championship, but find themselves 21st in the league with just 1 win in 9 games 😳
This mirrors the Leicester City situation where they are similarly top of the League One possession, but sit 17th with one of the best sides in the division 🫠
The exception to the rule is in League Two, where Scott Lindsay’s York City lead the possession charts and are currently in 5th, not bad at all for a newly promoted side 👏🏽
However, a lot has been made about the ‘Russell Martin’ style of football in the EFL, and perhaps it’s not the way to play further down the divisions…
This bodes the question, is possession the way to play in the EFL? 👇🏽

A more valuable squad, alongside a transfer surplus…
York’s estimated squad value has risen by €2m while transfer income exceeds spending by €900k
An encouraging sign of a club building valuable playing assets, not simply relying on spending more…

This news has really hit me hard. Quevin was one of our first players to sign when we took over the club and had all the talent to go to the top. The young lads, Quevin, Thierry, Levi, and Kev always held a special place in my heart. We all were beginning a journey and all were new to what we were doing. I always wanted those boys to come on the journey to the very end with me. Unfortunately football doesn’t always have the fairytale ending. I do often contemplate if I had just stuck to my gut and stuck with these boys and help them fulfil their potential and it doesn’t sit right with me that I felt I let them down. But that connection continued even after they left. I’ve always kept in contact with Quevin and Thierry especially, always keeping my eye on their careers and feeling proud when I’d see them have a good game. The last time I spoke to Quevin he was so excited for the club and the promotion and was also excited to get his playing career back on track. The news today absolutely took me out and made our game hard to even watch. Really puts everything into perspective. I’m sad I won’t see Quevin again but I’m glad for the time we did get to spend together. A lovely young man taken far too soon. Rest easy my brother ❤️😞

Excited for the journey ahead. Grateful for the opportunity @matt_uggla ⚽️
Think we be innovative and unique, dare I say even groundbreaking….. We somehow, and hear me out on this… make the badge a circle. Hardly any club has done that. Will take courage but together I believe we can blaze and new trail in English football.

Paddy has been nothing short of a York City legend. I know how much he accomplished at this club before we got here. However I will always be so thankful to him for being a source of stability during and very turbulent beginning. This man deserves the ultimate send off and I really hope City fans all come down to pay their respects to a true gentleman. ❤️❤️

🗣️ Robbie Savage on FGR’s summer recruitment:
“17 have gone out. 6 have come in. We think now that our recruitment is done. Only thing we’ll look at is if one or two go on loan, then we’ll bring one or two in.”
Squad of 23 is the way for FGR, but is it enough?
