Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

Full details of a remotely exploitable vulnerability in the core engine of *all* PHP versions will be released tomorrow, October 21st. If your organization has internet facing PHP applications then you need to be ready to patch the minute the update is released or *strongly* consider taking the application offline until you can:

🚨 PHP warns of two critical vulnerabilities as emergency patches arrive tomorrow
The PHP security team will release updates on October 21 at 14:00 UTC for two vulnerabilities, each rated 9.2 under CVSS v4.0.
⠀
Security researchers identified the flaws as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 and described them as remote code execution vulnerabilities reportedly affecting PHP versions 5 through 8.
PHP has not yet confirmed the affected versions, exploitation requirements or fixed releases.
⠀
The vulnerabilities were reportedly leaked before their planned disclosure. Researchers said they have not observed active exploitation, while PHP warned it may release the patches early if technical details become public or exploitation is detected.
⠀
Administrators should identify PHP installations now and prepare to apply the updates as soon as they become available.

In complete agreement with @paulkrugman's analysis today on France.
1. France is probably too big to save for Europe. the potential for a serious European crisis is real.
2. The problem is pretty straightforward: the pensions are unsustainable, and the extreme right and extreme left are determined to block sensible reforms. This makes any potential bailout politically impossible for its partners.

Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk.
• 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active.
It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks.
• State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding.
• Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure.
• Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately.
Open weights release end of October.

I asked Opus 5.5 to explain camera focus by building an interactive lens lab
Here's what it came up with after 1 hour 26 minutes in one shot, $25.66 API cost

Move the focus ring and you can see the glass elements shift the sharp plane through the scene

GPT-6 Astra has just beaten a standard game of Factorio with enemies enabled after nearly 44 hours in-game time, and 4 days 11 hours on his Codex /goal clock.
At API pricing, logs indicate it would've cost about $4500. It could probably be 50x cheaper by offloading more to Luna and providing some standard scripts for common tasks.
My next test might be Astra coaching Muse Spark or Qwen 3.8 27B into solving a random seed, now that we have successful logs to review.
super smash bros melee is fully decompiled, this project started in july 2020, so it took over 6 years. the progress was hugely accelerated by llms and finished off with astra. it's a very large game with 3.88mb of compiled code.

Side note: when we released ARC-AGI-3 in March, and frontier models scored <1% on it, a few Singularitarian poasters took it as a personal insult, and got very worked up about it. They argued the benchmark was fundamentally broken, that it could not even be solved by the smartest humans, that the max reachable score was actually 40%, etc.
We had to deal with a torrent of insults and hate poasts since because we had released an unsaturated benchmark.
As it turns out, the benchmark is perfectly calibrated. It is straightforward for a human to score 100% if they do better than average people – all you need is to use fewer actions than our human baseline (which is not a strong baseline, as we used unfiltered human testers).
And naturally as a result it's also very feasible for AI to score 100% once real progress towards agentic general intelligence has been made. The trajectory of AI from <1% to 100% over the course of 6 months shows that the benchmark was able to snapshot the recent rise of agentic capabilities. And that rise has happened faster than most people expected, including us.
