You're right. "Being Canadian" hasn't historically been about limiting excessive powers of government (due to our loyalist and government-trusting-to-a fault nature).
But this tendency as a generalization is not a good thing. Horrible things can and have be justified for the greater good by governments.
Let your government think of everything for you and keep you safe how they deem fit - really bad idea.

Years of her rubbish circulated before any fixes or corrections were applied, Leigh, gaslighting you and millions of others into this mess.
Then there’s Glen McGregor, now spouting bias at CityNews Toronto, who hyped security threats in February 2022; his network only set that straight on July 21, 2025, after he left CTV in mid-November 2024, according to his own X account.
