When Waymo launched in Denver in September, the company said its prices would likely be higher than Uber’s and Lyft’s. We spent a week comparing all three services, recording price estimates across times and routes. Waymo wasn’t just competitive; it was often cheaper.

Waymo's prices were the most stable of the three, shifting about half as often as Uber's or Lyft's. But when they did jump, the swings were far more volatile. Some estimates exceeded $60, whereas Uber's and Lyft's never exceeded $52 and $35, respectively.

Denver's transit agency was thriving before 2020, but the pandemic sank ridership, and it hasn't rebounded since. The FreeRide paced RTD's other popular bus routes even before 16th Street's full reopening last fall, and ranked No. 1 this spring, according to agency boarding data.
