Public Works is on it... Here's what previous evaluations have returned for four way stops, so I expect the same analysis and conclusion.

Does anyone know why @OlmstedParks502's Cherokee Park has only one place to safely enter its 26,000 foot perimeter and 400 acres, without using a car and finding parking? Can we build some sidewalks & crosswalks? @loukyparks @laylakgeorge @LouisvilleMayor @benforlou8 @LouPubWorks

Two and a half years after the idea was pitched, @LouisvilleMayor has officially done the work, approved by Council's FY25 budget, to create a Louisville Metro Department of Transportation in @LouPubWorks! Full report here via @teamcityfi & @walk_left: louisvilleky.gov/MetroDOT
One year anniversary of this Twitter account's creation for a Louisville Metro Department of Transportation (courier-journal.com/story/op…) and a detailed thread exploring the idea from Nov 2021 (nitter.gq/MichaelMobility/status…) and now an RFP closing tomorrow (louisvilleky.bonfirehub.com/…)!

🤞 neighborhood traffic calming 🙏 park access improvements 👋 business district beautifications
I am sharing my Budget address tomorrow for Louisville. I personally went through line by line of this budget, understanding the decisions that need to be made to address the urgent priorities of our city.

Main Remade should mimic designs below, or we as a city have failed. A slow street not for getting quickly in/out of downtown — other roads do that. No traffic lights unless they are for BRT — all way stops instead. Protected bike lanes. Wider sidewalks. No center turn lanes!
KYTC is converting Main St to two-way (from Wenzel to 2nd St). Public meeting at Slugger Field (401 East Main St) is tomorrow, March 19, 5:30-7:30pm. More details in the @VisionZero_Lou newsletter: content.govdelivery.com/acco…

Its not realistic to expect sensible urban policy decisions from a 400 square mile area containing hundreds of thousands pf people with mostly anti-urban values. At best, policy will get watered down, but more often the things we need to do for a better city will get blocked – at Louisville, KY

Quick search of mayor car deaths finds Melville, LA, Emerson, GA, Columbia, LA, Loureauville, LA, Silex, MO, Maineville, OH, Fairbanks, IA. Louisville may be the largest city where mayor was walking? Check out this article title from 1884 for South Norwalk, CT.

population density + politics
I always wondered what a population density spike map + political map would look like so I had a go at it (in new version of #aerialod) and my verdict is: slightly mad, but quite interesting

Ahem, @benforlou8. This is what we proposed for Eleanor Ave in Douglass, and Public Works said it was impossible.

Y’all… @LouisvilleMayor @LouPubWorks @VisionZero_Lou @LMPD @KYTCDistrict5 @kipda - this is a map of JUST hit and run car crashes since January 2023! We need serious traffic calming across the county like @Streets4Peeps proposes here: streetsforpeople.org/policie…

Here's the @VisionZero_Lou dashboard, currently updated through July 2023. I don't think hit and runs are tracked. arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/f… You can see it on the KY State Police website: 3,280 hit & run crash reports in 2023 so far, 14 deaths, 344 injured. crashinformationky.org/Advan…

Reason why the Comprehensive Review Commission and report they publish is important: The bill says their report can recommend the state make many changes to the city's leadership, taxes, funding, & service distribution. apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/… Comment: louisvilleky.gov/government/…

For the 3rd highest zip code, 40299, Jeffersontown and eastward, it's even more extreme. Downtown's 40202 generates 4x as much occupational license tax, 24x as much per person, and 147x more per land area! City services cost way more in the suburbs, vs more productive land use.
