What you apparently missed is that the Justice Department’s prosecutorial decisions are supposed to be guided by evidence and law, not the President’s personal grievances. “I work for President Trump” is something his private defense attorney says. You’re now responsible for administering federal law on behalf of the United States, including the millions of Americans who didn’t vote for him. And there’s a rather important distinction between advancing an administration’s lawful policies and treating the nation’s prosecutorial authority as an extension of one man’s political interests. The Justice Department isn’t supposed to be independent of the Constitution, Todd. It’s supposed to be independent of improper political influence. You haven’t exposed some great constitutional misunderstanding. You’ve publicly questioned a safeguard intended to prevent the government from using prosecution as a political weapon. The DOJ isn’t Trump’s personal law firm, Todd. And the rest of us aren’t paying taxes to fund his retainer.
