If you think Bending Spoons is buying companies at a discount and not at a premium, you still haven’t adjusted to the reality that it’s not 2021 anymore
Headline: “Billionaire takes over San Francisco street!”
Actual story: a movie is shooting in San Francisco.
This is why no one trust the media, and wow @SFGate has declined.
My annual Fleet Week PSA: for the love of God please do not drive your car into San Francisco and think that you’ll be parking anywhere within 5 miles of the waterfront
What people miss about the math debate is that soon these models will be publically released, so *anyone* can take a crack at advanced math.
Imagine little Timmy showing up at the middle school science fair with an improved proof for Navier-Stokes.
When 2026 wraps up, the quote that best captures it is going to be, “we didn’t ask for this work to be done.”
Blows me away that the 377 OpenAI math results took an average of 3 hours of compute. Those kinds of problems take me 5 or 6, and that’s with a lot of caffeine
I’m trying to reconcile “these proofs are worthless slop” and “these proofs destroyed my profession”
As is so often the case, the people who claim to be upset only at *how* it was done are really just upset *that* it was done.
Lots of people saying the OpenAI math results means we are finally at ASI, but I dunno, I was kind of already there when AI learned to ace the LSATs, GREs, MCATs, etc, in 100 languages in a few seconds.
Amazing that every time AI gets better, even more people double down on the, “AI sucks, plus it doesn’t even work” argument.
I’m trying to parse, “mathematicians won’t have any valuable work to do” vs. “mathematicians have better things to do than parse those 377 research papers to extract their insights.”
Please, @WSJTech don’t adopt that stupid clickbait ”people are freaking out” line.
Effective Altruism (”put your money where it will do the most good”) is a completely obvious, even anodyne, idea that no one could be against.
It’s amazing they screwed it up so badly.
The ICU doctors are working furiously to save Christa Pike's life so that we can . . . uh . . . execute her again?
