Leavitt: Tariffs are a tax hike on foreign countries and a tax cut for the American people
Reporter: Have you ever paid a tariff? I have. They don’t get charged on foreign countries
Leavitt: I think it’s insulting that you are trying test my knowledge on economics
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Leavitt is incorrect here. Tariffs are neither a tax hike on foreign countries nor a tax cut for the American people. Tariffs are paid by the importer, and the burden of the tariff has been found to mostly be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher prices.

Is this a new thing — that Leon throttles magnifying glass (search) for headlines, trending, etc. presumably for accounts without blue check marks? Most recently, for several weeks, ”tweet activity” was ”unavailable” for many users. Anyone else getting the below repeatedly?
Correct: You do not need to be American to volunteer for a political campaign. (Also, you do not need to be old enough to vote.) This is always a point I’ve made when recruiting volunteers. Absolutely, positively legal.

I can’t think about Joe Biden without tearing up a little.
This man ran for president 5 times and lost then enthusiastically backed Obama and played the establishment number two to the greatest leader of his generation.
He wanted to run for president in 2016 but couldn’t because his son Beau died and he was too wracked with grief.
So he comes back in 2020, saves the country from Donald Trump and despite being a career centrist, proceeds to have the most pro-union, pro-working class administration in 80 years, pulls the country out of Covid, pulls us from the economic disaster of Trump into the best economy in the world.
He’s then betrayed by the media class and has to drop out because he’s too old for them. He steps down, for the good of the country, and immediately turns around and full-throatedly endorses the the first Black woman Presidential candidate finalist in U.S. history.
This man.
There seems to be some confusion re: @ActBlue from folks who want to donate directly to #KamalaHarris. #ActBlue is simply an online platform that facilitates grassroots fundraising for our side.😇When you donate, YOU DIRECT YOUR $ to campaign of ur choice or to ur choice of org.
For those not familiar w #Brazil, N & NE pop is broadly of African descent (historic home to slavery on sugar & other plantations) & Indigenous (Amazonas). S is historically European & White. The small states around Amazonas dominated by large landowners (White). #BrazilElections

I know this is deadly serious but, honestly, my first thought was this was how floor next to bed in my hotel rooms looked while traveling for work in 1980s.🤣🤣🤣 #NARALago #TrumpMeltdown #FPOTUS

I have decades of field experience & would like to commit serious time to #JohnFetterman & #JoshShapiro in #Pennsylvania. Any of my longtime campaign friends have contacts on either of those staffs? #Fetterman #Shapiro #Oz #Mastriano
Do any of my former Kerry 04, Obama 08 or Obama 2012 friends have contacts at #FettermanforSenate? I’d like to donate some time to field effort but I need a contact on staff. Thx! @DFAaction #DFA @dailykos #dailykos #fetterman #johnfetterman #Pennsylvania
Another perfect day to remind purists, third-partyists & non-voters u’r not getting married when u vote. U don’t have to be in love. It’s not lifelong commitment to party or platform. And sometimes, LIKE NOW, it’s just raw defensive, protective, transactional triage. #RoeVsWade
