Another murderous attack on Israelis in Judea and Samaria. Five Israelis wounded, two critically, in yet another Palestinian terrorist attack near Hebron. This is part of a deadly wave of Palestinian terrorism targeting Jews. Palestinian incitement, the Palestinian Authority's Pay for Slay policy, and an education system that encourages murdering Jews fuels this violence. There can be no justification. There can be no excuses. Terrorism must be condemned unequivocally.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu together with Education Minister Yoav Kisch and the Minister responsible for the rebuilding of the north and south, Ze'ev Elkin, went to Kiryat Shmona to mark the opening of the academic year and the transformation of Tel Hai College into Kiryat Shmona - Tel Hai University, a historic effort accompanied by a government investment of NIS 694 million. Prime Minister Netanyahu set a clear target that has become a reality today: The establishment of a university in Kiryat Shmona as part of building a new future for the north. In accordance with his directive, the establishment of the university was promoted as a strategic anchor for the development of the city and the entire region, to create opportunities for young people, attract researchers and professionals, and strengthen employment, research, and innovation in the north. During the visit, the Prime Minister met with the university's management, faculty members, and students, emphasizing the importance of the move as part of a broad governmental policy: Not merely to rebuild, but to lead a long-term growth momentum that will establish Kiryat Shmona as an academic, economic, and social hub. The program includes the expansion of the campus and research infrastructure, the recruitment of leading faculty members, and a dedicated scholarship system, including full funding for engineering studies and a master’s degree with a thesis in the sciences, alongside strengthening the connection between the university, the city, and the community. Academic revolution from the north to the south: The establishment of Kiryat Shmona University is part of a national initiative led by the Prime Minister to expand access to higher education and strengthen the periphery. The effort includes promoting new medical schools and expanding academic activity in additional cities, including Dimona, Nahariya, and Eilat. At the same time, the government is promoting a support package for reserve soldiers, including tuition assistance and academic adjustments, in accordance with programs and eligibility conditions. Broad program for rebuilding and developing the north: Alongside the establishment of the university, the government, in accordance with the Prime Minister's directive, is leading a sweeping program for the fortification and development of the north with an investment of approximately NIS 6.8 billion. The program includes assistance in fortifying residential homes, deploying 1,800 mobile bomb shelters, and renovating 500 public bomb shelters. Concurrently, efforts are being advanced to upgrade infrastructure and renew the city center, develop industry and food-tech, strengthen personal security and healthcare services, and provide transportation solutions to improve accessibility to Kiryat Shmona and connect it to Israel's economic hubs. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "This is a historic day and tremendous news for Kiryat Shmona and the entire Galilee. I promised that a university be established in Kiryat Shmona, and today we are fulfilling that promise. A university is much more than an academic institution, it is an anchor of growth, research, innovation, and employment, and it expresses our belief in the future of Kiryat Shmona and the entire north. In accordance with my directive, we are working simultaneously to strengthen security, upgrade infrastructure, expand employment, and improve education and healthcare services. The north will flourish and thrive more than ever before."

The IDF reveals a document written by Yahya Sinwar’s son to his father, the architect of the massacre, at the beginning of the war: “I want to shout ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is the greatest), hold a Kalashnikov, and shoot Jews. When will you come sleep next to me and cuddle with me? I’m constantly making guns, tanks, and Kalashnikovs out of paper and cardboard.”

The terror attack on the Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv was more than an attack on Israelis. It was an attack on Israel–UAE relations and everything the Abraham Accords represent. Instead, the world saw Israelis, Emiratis and Indians showing extraordinary courage and standing together against terror. 🇮🇱🇦🇪🇮🇳 Terror will not derail the progress transforming our region.

For the first time in over 20 years, someone has tried to hijack a plane bound for Israel. Miraculously, the attacker, an Omani pilot, was overpowered before he could complete his mission. The entire region held its breath as the morning Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv sent an emergency signal, flashed the hijack code and appeared to veer off course over Saudi airspace. The region then exhaled, almost with a chuckle, when early reports blamed a scuffle between the two pilots. That laughter quickly died as security assessments and passenger testimony revealed that the co-pilot had repeatedly stabbed the captain. The terrorist then seized the controls and pointed the plane toward the ground, dropping almost 20,000 feet in just over a minute, until several crew members and passengers forced their way through the cockpit door and subdued him. Many were injured in the process. The plane made an emergency landing in Tabuk, in northwestern Saudi Arabia, where the passengers are now waiting for Israel to bring them home. The assailant’s specific motive and affiliation are still unconfirmed, but Israel is treating the incident as terrorism. Unlike many of the hijackings in Israel's long history, today's had a happy ending. It also came just weeks after the 25th anniversary of the deadliest hijacking in history. Many questions remain. How was this man cleared to fly the plane? What precisely drove him? And what does this mean for the future of air travel in Israel’s busiest flight corridor? El Al suspended its scheduled flights to the United Arab Emirates in March 2026 due to security threats and has not resumed them since. It is possible that the assailant intended to drive a wedge into this crucial alliance. Just yesterday, Benjamin Netanyahu warned in a speech at the IDF’s main air base that “our enemies will try to attack us.” “Don’t mess with us,” he warned. “Our long arm will reach you anywhere, and at any time.” But it was not the avenging fist of the Israeli Air Force nor a heroic rescue by special forces that foiled today’s threat. It was the courage of everyday Israelis. There was a very real and tragic possibility that I would be writing an entirely different article today. With the captain barely hanging on to life, a broken steering system and a damaged wing, it was only by the bravery of a handful of passengers and crew that almost 180 lives were saved. Today, on the fifth day of Sukkot, we will recite the words of Hallel with extra fervor: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
