Education in 2029, as predicted in 1929

ALT “A century hence,” among other things he said: “books are going to be eliminated, educational films will take their place. Newspapers that are using an enormous amount of soft wood for the manufacture of paper will be abolished. People will get a knowledge of the happenings by machines somewhat on the line of radios. Schools will be extinct. Teachers will sit in the comfort of their homes and give lectures to pupils also sitting in their homes. The only books will belong to a state library and the paper will be made of rags.” -Waterloo Region Record, 5 October 1929

To me, this one has "economists predict 31 of the last 4 recessions" energy.

Respect to this French ceramicist who predicted widescreen TVs in 1902.
Gotta figure out what empty big box store near me that Spirit Halloween has occupied, like a retail hermit crab.
In our latest episode on education (with @mealeylaffs and Unprofessional Development), we touch on the racist origins of the SAT. Specifically, how Carl Brigham--who created the SAT--did so with the assumption of white superiority. His book, A Study of American Intelligence, 1/3
is full of both ugly racist and a complete misunderstanding of the relationship between correlation and causation (which is odd for a book with so many graphs.) We didn't go into it in great detail, because we were having a fun discussion and eugenics and racism is super 2/3
We can’t agree if the future tastes like mango or cotton candy. We do agree that space tastes better than the future. @CocaCola
Here is the other cartoon from Arthur Radebaugh we featured in this week's episode. This wound up being more accurate than it would be otherwise from March of 2020 through 2021. His cartoons are definitely worth further investigation: buff.ly/2QqPzIV
Here is the full page of predictions from the 1900 Ladies Home Journal that we covered in today's episode. It's worth looking at all of the predictions, they are fascinating.
Today on Mistopian! Patrick and Alex welcome their friends and hosts of Unprofessional Development, @mealeylaffs and Tudisco, to use their expertise as educators to evaluate predictions from the past about what teaching would be like in the future.
