Tonight, I’m thinking about Justice Murray Sinclair and of the times that I was lucky enough to hear him speak about his work with the TRC. This moment stands out for me. It’s his answer when he was asked, “Why can’t you just get over it?”

My favourite Murray Sinclair quote: “The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off”.
#MurraySinclair lived a life of love, justice, purpose and meaning. He led Canada through a process of truth and reconciliation, with great wisdom and power. Thanks to him we can no longer see our past, present and future in the same way. As a great poet put it “he left the vivid air signed with his honour”.

I went to Winnipeg to see Murray Sinclair in assisted living earlier this year. There, he conducted his final interview. We also went to Selkirk and he showed me where he grew up. It was the culmination of a decade of trust building. Story here: theglobeandmail.com/politics… #cdnpoli

Covid cases rising as free rapid tests for Covid disappear or expire in Ottawa. The only tests left at the few pharmacies with supplies expire on Sept 21, 2024. The government cancelled the program in June according to this story by @egpayne ottawacitizen.com/news/local…
This week's Respiratory Dashboard update is live and the levels of COVID-19 circulating in our community remain high. School's back, which means using your layers of protection matters that much more. Avoiding gatherings (or staying home from school) when you feel sick and wearing a well-fitted mask when needed will help to prevent the spread. You can see this week's complete update & get more info about reducing your risks here: OttawaPublicHealth.ca/RespVi…

I know it's a holiday Monday, I know it's not about wine ... but it's important, and it needed to be said. It's about the death of a newspaper and what that means for journalism. Read at your leisure. Posted now to Wines in Niagara ... 👉bit.ly/Stoppress

Truly joyous event @jschool_cu awarding the first Leonard Shifrin and Louise Dulude Canadian Social Policy Emerging Reporter Fund grant to graduating student Ali Al-Ashoor. He will use the fund to report on how AI tools distort Indigenous experience and what can be done about it.

So very sad to hear this news. It was so exciting to work at this once vital daily newspaper after graduating from @JSchool_CU back when newspapers were alive and well. It changed my life. What a loss to the city of Whitehorse

Thanks to @ProfAllan and @JSchool_CU for their work keeping one of my dreams alive.
Lovely to meet with friend and former @JSchool_CU colleague Mary McGuire @mmmcgu to talk about her continued support for a fund at Carleton that helps journalism students take up paid internships in Canada's north, a place close to Mary's heart and where she started her career.
