Like all #SelfieSundaySpecies wild cats — big and small — bobcats are important to their ecosystems. In the Pacific Northwest, for example, they provide economic benefits to people, including controlling rodents that affect timber production.

Almost all the Big Cats have retractable claws, just like your cat at home. The Cheetah, however, only has semi-retractable claws, needing all the grip it can muster to run at such ferocious speeds, and in particular grip the ground to accelerate sharply.

As we post this update, Nina’s keeper is feeding her and she is being comforted by him. She is lying in a comfortable resting position and is snacking on cucumbers. Nina, who has gone through inexpressible horrors all her life, has been amazingly forgiving to humans, and has developed a strong emotional bond with her keeper in a very short time. Our team is at her side day and night to assist whenever she needs them.
Our team understands the gravity of the situation and is doing the best to provide Nina with the best medical care. We are overwhelmed with the love and support pouring in from all over the world for Nina. Thank you again for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers.

Today we give a #Caturday shoutout to the Snow Leopard.
Did you know the Snow Leopard is not a Leopard at all? Despite the similarities in appearance genetics show its closest Big Cat relative is actually the Tiger with a common ancestor some 3.2 million years ago.

If the Umani orphans had a slogan, it would be ‘no elephant is left behind’. Despite several of the elephants here having life-long disabilities that affect their ability to walk long distances, the herd has always stuck together. Now with baby Mwana in the mix, it takes on a whole new meaning.
