thetimes.com/uk/royal-family… Metropolitan Police initially failed to locate a letter containing serious allegations against the Duchess of Sussex’s father and was forced to ask her if she had kept a copy, The Times has learnt. Met misplaced letter containing allegations about Thomas Markle. Scotland Yard asked the Duchess of Sussex for her copy of the document, which it had received in 2019 but failed to pass on to other agencies. Recollections may vary and sloppy synonym is careless. Which is not a ringing endorsement for @metpoliceuk @ScotchMist31 @HighlandHeathen @waylandtb

Before Jesse Owens became a household name, there was William DeHart Hubbard, a Cincinnati athlete who had already learned what it meant to compete while being told he did not belong. At Walnut Hills High School, Hubbard excelled in both academics and football. When opponents objected to a Black player taking the field and the school board suspended him, his teammates refused to continue without him. They forfeited the season rather than accept a team that excluded Hubbard because of his race. Track and field eventually gave him a larger stage. Hubbard earned a scholarship to the University of Michigan through a newspaper subscription contest and became the only Black athlete on Michigan’s track team. He won NCAA and Big Ten titles and six consecutive AAU long jump championships. In 1924, he traveled to Paris as one of only four Black athletes on the 299-member U.S. Olympic team. Before the ship sailed, Hubbard wrote to his mother that he would do his best to become the “first colored Olympic champion.” On July 8, 1924, despite bruising his heel during the competition, he used his final attempt to leap 24 feet 5½ inches and win the long jump. He became the first Black athlete to win an individual Olympic gold medal. Hubbard's career did not end with that medal. He later set a world long jump record, tied the world record in the 100-yard dash, founded the Cincinnati Tigers of the Negro American League, and worked in recreation and housing. His achievements helped establish a path later followed by athletes such as Jesse Owens. Hubbard died in 1976, but the significance of what he accomplished in Paris remains enormous. He was not simply the first Black American to win an individual Olympic gold medal. He was one of the athletes who helped make it harder for the country to argue that Black excellence belonged anywhere less than the biggest stage. #BlackHistory

Donald Trump called his father's $1 million loan "small." In 1990, his father's lawyer delivered $3.35 million to Trump's struggling casino, which later went bankrupt. New Jersey regulators called the casino transaction an illegal loan. The casino kept the money and paid a $65,000 fine. In the video below, Trump explains his starting capital: "My father gave me a small loan of a million. I had to pay him back with interest." In December 1990, Trump Castle was facing an interest payment. Fred Trump's lawyer arrived with a certified check for $3.35 million. A casino dealer exchanged the check for 670 gray chips, each worth $5,000. The casino made its bond payment that day. The next day, another $150,000 arrived by wire. Fred Trump's lawyer collected 30 more chips. New Jersey regulators investigated and called the transaction an illegal loan. The casino kept the money and was fined $65,000. About a year later, Trump Castle went bankrupt. Donald Trump gave up half his ownership to creditors. In 2015, Trump said his father had lent him $1 million, which he repaid with interest. He argued that amount was small compared with what he later built. In 2018, The New York Times reviewed Fred Trump's tax records and reported that he transferred at least $413 million to his son over the years. Trump's lawyer denied allegations of fraud and tax evasion. The reported transfers were 413 times the size of Trump's "small loan." Did Donald Trump build his fortune independently, or did his father's money give him the crucial advantage?

During the January 6th attack on the nation's Capitol, Daniel Rodriguez drove a stun gun into the neck of Officer Mike Fanone. He was knocked unconscious, had a heart attack and suffered a traumatic brain injury. It ended his career. Rodriguez got over 12 years in prison for his assault on police. On day one, Donald Trump gave him a "full, complete and unconditional pardon" and sent him home. This is far and away the most corrupt White House in American history.

Trump boasted last night: Obama was in Michigan and the place was empty. Empty? Look at the crowd that showed up to see Obama in Detroit yesterday. OH WAIT… THIS IS JUST THE OVERFLOW ROOM — TRUMP SHIT HIS PANTS (see his rant in reply) 😆 More than 4,300 people turned out in Detroit — after Obama packed Cleveland’s roughly 10,000-seat Public Auditorium earlier in the day. That’s Obama with Michigan candidates Jocelyn Benson and Abdul El-Sayed. 9 days…

She once asked an archbishop whether it was acceptable for a nun to lie if doing so could save Jewish children from the Nazis. His answer was only six words: “Let’s lie, my daughter, let’s lie.” Those words gave Sister Denise Bergon the courage she needed. In 1942, at thirty years old, she was Mother Superior of Notre-Dame de Massip, a convent school in southwestern France. Jewish families were being torn apart. Some children escaped into the countryside, frightened and hungry. Sister Denise had already sheltered several, passing them off as ordinary Catholic students. She knew protecting more would mean misleading the authorities. She secretly wrote to Archbishop Jules-Géraud Saliège of Toulouse, who had openly condemned the persecution of Jews. He told her, “Let’s lie, my daughter, let’s lie.” Resistance couriers and desperate relatives began bringing Jewish children to the convent. Eventually eighty-three were hidden inside. Sister Denise shared the truth with only three trusted people. The other nuns were told the children were refugees. Many of the Jewish children did not know Catholic prayers. She claimed they came from strict communist families that had rejected religion. The story protected them. Whenever authorities arrived, the children hid in concealed cellars beneath the chapel floor. At night Sister Denise buried the money, jewelry and identity documents parents had entrusted to her. She kept a private record of the children’s real identities. For twenty months the operation continued. When the war ended all eighty-three children had survived. Whenever relatives came forward she helped reunite them and returned everything she had buried. For children whose parents had died she helped arrange safe homes. She returned to her quiet religious life and never wrote a memoir. The children never forgot her. As adults they returned with their own children and grandchildren. Sister Denise died in 2006 at the age of ninety-four. Annie Beck, one of the children she sheltered, later said, “She was like a mother to us. She saved our lives.” Eighty-three children entered her convent seeking safety, and all eighty-three survived.

🚨 BREAKING: Ontario Premier Doug Ford just canceled Elon Musk’s Starlink contract and banned all U.S. companies from government contracts in response to Trump’s economic war with Canada. “It’s done, it’s gone,” Ford said. “We won’t award contracts to people who enable and encourage economic attacks on our province and our country.” And just to be clear: “They only have President Trump to blame.” So Trump starts a trade war, and now American businesses are getting locked out of Canada. This isn’t “tough negotiating”—this is our closest ally shutting the door on us while Trump pretends he’s “winning.” MAGA wanted an economic war? Well, they just got one. And it’s American companies and workers who are about to feel the pain. FOLLOW:@johnfkjuniorq

This isn't new. Doug Ford cancelled Ontario's Starlink contract in March 2025, during that year's tariff fight. Ontario also banned U.S. companies from bidding on provincial contracts at that time. It did not happen this week. broadbandbreakfast.com/ontario-wont-r… globalnews.ca/news/11067542/…

This moment when reading news following a running saga feels going from bad to worse and this fear the saga is soon going to reach the 10th circle of Hell. One thing is sure: the so-called royal rota is going to have to backpedal to Olympic games levels for a very long time.
