I am very pleased to announce that my new book, "Paul Tillich in Plain English," is now available!
I am quite excited about this one, and I hope it will be a helpful resource for you!

Theologians must refuse AI. I articulate four reasons in this video: 1. AI is theft; 2. AI is boring; 3. AI harms critical thinking; 4. AI is racing society toward ecological and economic collapse.

I never want to hear another American compare their media's malpractice to North Korean propaganda ever again. Westerners are more aggressively propagandized than any other population on earth.
New video: Why theologians must reject AI. This is both a statement, promising that I will never use AI in my work, and an argument for why no theologian should use it.

I do think one of the reasons some are mad at Digger is that it coolly rejects the usual self-congratulatory affirmation of Art as #Resistance in The Present Darkness, affirming instead that yes, art and artists can be coopted, can aid and abet as easily as anyone else, and that some "art" might even sometimes be less authentic human expression than simply profitable bread and circuses useful for channeling rage at fictions and away from the reality that's actually harming us and that we do, indeed, have the power to change.
Also: I'm finding *this* conversation far more enjoyable than the Great Odyssey Debate of '26!
New: review of Kenneth G. Appold’s “Luther & the Peasants.” This is an excellent study of the so-called Peasants’ Revolt of 1525, one that gives voice to the peasants themselves amidst so much myth and misinterpretation of these events.

New video: How to read liberation theology (book recommendations). I discuss the seminal texts and figures, as well as a few lesser-known works.

one of the twists in real world AI is that, in scifi, it was assumed that the danger would be that we'd raise the machine to the level of a human soul. but to be honest, it seems we're most in danger of debasing the human soul to the level of machine.

When I moved to Florida I realized there are millions of people who have been stewing in rage for years over the lockdowns.
It really made me understand that the core animating force in US society is selfishness. The whole freedom thing is a thin veil for a sense of entitlement.

New video: "There is no ethical use of AI."
I would challenge everyone, but especially theologians, to refuse to use AI whenever possible.

All my books are on Amazon out of necessity (more people buy or search for books there than anywhere else). But I would always recommend people shop for books elsewhere. (Amazon typically isn't the best deal for books, anyway.)
A good alternative is Bookshop.org, which supports local bookstores. They are offering free shipping now for an "anti-primeday" sale, so if you are looking to stock up, give them a try: bookshop.org/beta-search?key…
Other great sites include Biblio, Albris, or directly from the publisher, but do also look into independent local sellers. Bookfinder.com is usually my first stop when looking for books—it is an aggregate that looks up a wide range of sellers. Avoid Abebooks (Amzn owned)
I saw a post on Reddit that said that “The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.” And I don’t think I’ve ever seen AI described so incisively.
Review: T&T Clark Handbook of Modern Theology. I found this to be a useful resource, even quite "fun" to read! I critique the Barth entry somewhat, but overall it is a helpful volume.

Universities don't need to "teach students to use AI well." The whole point of AI is that it doesn't require any skill. Universities *should* teach students how to write and research on their own, and foster an ethic of shaming people who outsource their basic ability to think.
