I agree with every word of this.
Slavery was an evil in which people from every continent and region participated. We should be honest about the whole history, not select the parts that are politically convenient today, especially given Britain's leading role in ending the transatlantic slave trade.
If Caribbean countries are asking Britain for a formal apology for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, will they also be asking the same of the descendants of African kingdoms, rulers and merchants who captured, sold and profited from the trade?
On demands for reparations, whether through cash or debt relief, we have been down this track before. Twenty-five years ago, Jubilee 2000, Drop the Debt and Make Poverty History argued that cancelling the debts of poorer countries would give them a fresh start. More than $100 billion of debt was eventually written off, but many of those countries have since built up even bigger debts. Labour are already spending too much on Britain's welfare state, now is not the time for Andy Burnham to be providing global welfare.
There is no reason British taxpayers today should be held financially responsible for things that happened generations before any of us were born. And I have even less patience for political elites in commonwealth countries who don’t know how to make their own citizens prosperous now looking for another opportunity to blame Britain.
As Prime Minister, Andy Burnham should be Britain’s greatest defender. Instead, he is writing articles saying we need to confront our history (as if we haven't done enough of that) and considering another formal historical apology. Tony Blair already expressed Britain’s deep sorrow and regret for our role in the slave trade nearly twenty years ago. There is no need to do so again.
This is all another navel-gazing distraction. The Commonwealth should be looking forward, not endlessly backwards. That means economic partnerships to make us all richer and deeper military and security cooperation against common threats. If every Commonwealth summit becomes an exercise in presenting Britain with demands for cash then we need to start asking if it is worth the effort.

Good to see well done BBC
Exciting news! Naturewatch launches on Friday, 6 November, and the show will run year-round as a weekly video podcast based near Bristol. The new series will give viewers a continuous, weekly look at British wildlife through every season.
Host Megan McCubbin told the BBC:
“Having a weekly programme dedicated to UK wildlife means a lot, as so much activity happens under our noses that often goes unnoticed... but no longer! Packed with science, stories and wonder, I hope it will inspire viewers to get outside and reconnect with the wildlife around us.”
Naturewatch begins on Friday 6 November. You can view it on BBC iPlayer or listen on BBC Sounds from 6am, and then watch it at 7.30pm on BBC Two.

To usłyszeli ode mnie liderzy Europy w Brukseli.

It’s very telling the left don’t lecture men on treating trans identifying men with respect, kindness & safety in men’s spaces… they just tell women to move over & shut up.

Men are not women no matter how much they might want to be. And the more women say no to them the more they just don’t care what impact their non reality demands have on women. It’s the biggest tell that they aren’t women. Make male spaces safe for all males. Men who think they are women remain a men’s issue. They are not a woman’s problem to solve. Our sports & spaces belong to us. Sex based rights are law

Do not be gaslit… a transwoman is a trans identifying man, who will forever remain biologically male. They are not a subset of women. They are a subset of men. They absolutely have every right to exist, do sport & be safe, but they do not belong in female spaces.

Record year for Hen Harriers at RSPB's Geltsdale Reserve in Cumbria.
More evidence that Hen Harriers do really well on moorland managed by RSPB, whereas on privately-owned grouse moors...

Wonderful to see these splendid magnificent birds establishing again in England.
We have special news!
3 white-tailed eagles have fledged from wild nests in Dorset & Sussex this summer.
With 5 pairs now established across England we hope to see further breeding in the coming years as this lost species is restored.

GREAT NEWS!
Do you remember these two (criminal) clowns...?
They've now both been issued with £1000 fines by North Warks Borough Council. Also, the vehicle they were driving was issued as part of the taxpayer-funded Motability Scheme. This has now been seized by the police on behalf of the Motability company.

Such a shame the BBC has cancelled Winterwatch. We're one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, and we need shows like this to help us connect with our wildlife! Please join me in asking them to rethink this decision. you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio… via @38degrees

We have a lot of selfish and socially-irresponsible people in Britain. They need re-educating and seriously punishing. We’re lobbying for MINIMUM fines to be increased to £1,000.

Worth noting that in August half of ALL BIOMASS of birds in Britain is pheasants, and 10% is another non-native species, Red-legged Partridges. Unsustainable Ecological disaster spread by those well-known ‘custodians of the countryside’ and serial arsonists @MoorlandAssoc
