👀Get ready if you love an entertaining crime thriller because tomorrow sees the release of The Last Hostage by Chris Dolley.
Book two in the DCI Shand series sees a notorious gang of kidnappers abducting people and demanding huge ransoms in the Southwest of England… and getting away with it.
How? By changing their MO every time and leaving no clues.
Wessex Police are so desperate they decide to bring a little chaos to play because maybe their loosest of loose cannons, Peter Shand, can break the pattern.
Or, he could just make things worse…

This is Labour Politician Lord Tom Watson being paid to be a salesman for Palantir, a highly controversial tech company that has Government contracts.
This is a sign of a democracy in decline.

The Duchy of Cornwall collected £503,711 rent from the King for Highgrove House.
Prince William is the Duke of Cornwall. Father pays rent to son. No money left the family but nice PR.
When King Charles was the Duke of Cornwall, he paid rent to himself.

Over the last two years, $100 million in European taxpayer money has gone to Elon Musk to pay for Starlink for Ukraine.
In that same period, zero US taxpayer money has gone to Ukraine.
Replying to @elonmusk
And some of that US taxpayer money comes back through multiple laundry machines to fund political campaigns in America, which is why you see some politicians caring more about Ukraine than America!

This week and last at Crime Fiction Lover we’ve been introducing readers to Aleksander Szeser, the brand-new indie crime author based in Poland.
His first novel, Dissonance, came out on 1 October and it’s brimming with cinematic action from the start. This is one of those stories where one of the main characters isn’t who they seem – with an extraordinary past, and some extraordinary skills. But Kira wants ordinary, not extraordinary. Trouble is, she might have to fight for it.
This one reminded me of Harlan Coben’s superb thrillers in the 1990s, where a huge personal secret explodes and carries everyone away with it.

We’re not great with investment tips here at Crime Fiction Lover, but we do love to showcase new crime authors and this week we’ve been talking about @vincethompson and his first thriller, The Lockup Period.
Here’s an author who knows where the bodies are buried in Silicon Valley, so to speak, writing about a tech startup that indeed involves a dead body. One found in the apartment of a CEO on the evening of his IPO.
Their venture capital investor Ravi Singh will not let his one chance of landing a unicorn go lightly. Advisory share holder (also a pizza cook) Mario Kennedy NEEDS this launch to finally land on the tech scene in the valley. If they can keep news about the body buried for the 90-day lockup period maybe they’ll all be rich.
But you know what journalists are like in the valley, not to mention the police might be interested…
It’s a fast, fun, twisty satirical caper, and it came out yesterday.

The Duchy of Cornwall owned the by Prince of Wales is a giant business organization
It is exempt from corporation and capital gains tax, uses infrastructure funded by others to make profit.
Inevitably, leads to unfair competition and free-rider problem.

UK law requires companies to pay dividends from realized profits, must maintain capital.
Poorly enforced.
Water companies flout it. Carillon abused it.
Govt proposes that dividends can be paid without capital maintenance
Madness to appease corporations

Banking lobby PR
Claims UK banks paid £47.8bn in tax; includes PAYE, NIC, VAT paid by other parties; that leaves £25.7bn borne by banks.
Silence on profiteering, £100bn subsidy over last 3 years via interest on central bank reserves.
Need windfall tax.

As crime fiction lovers we grew up dreaming of solving mysteries – thanks to what we were reading. For most of us it doesn’t usually pan out in the real world, so we keep on reading. That’s sort of the premise for Jess Mey’s debut cosy crime novel, Grace & Jo Have Never Solved a Murder. They’re just like us but now Jo’s husband has been murdered. His employee, Grace, is hired to assist her and off they go because the police can’t be trusted and two millennial women can probably do a better job anyway. Right? Readers find it witty and whimsical and the story comes to be about friendship as much as solving the crime.
Cosy is huge at the moment and Jess Mey brings something fresh to that area of the genre. Try it here: tinyurl.com/yrkr5fv3

🎉🍾Happy publication day to @vincethompson – his debut crime novel The Lockup Period is out now in print and for #Kindle. 👏📢
Here, the consultant, investor and former CEO takes us behind the scenes into Silicon Valley where the MenuAi tech stock is making its initial public offering.
Mario Kennedy is currently making pizzas but has advisory shares and this could be his big chance to finally cash in on a startup.
Things would be so glorious for him if it weren’t for the fact that there’s a dead body in the apartment of MenuAi’s CEO. If the truth gets out, initial investors will be allowed to sell in spite of the 90-day lockup period.
So, Mario and the denizens at MenuAi are doing everything they can to keep a lid on things. Trouble is there’s a reporter sniffing around and, well, all those usual things you worry about when trying to hide a suspicious death.
Caper meets financial thriller with plenty of humour and very high stakes.
