Comments like this should probably underscore the flimsiness of the 'constitutional sheriff' premise/movement
ICE Director Lyons: My message to the sheriff is: try and arrest my folks—let’s see what happens.

A lot of people are missing crucial context about the care services sector. Over recent decades, U.S. policy has increasingly favored care delivered in home- and community-based settings rather than large institutions, and Minnesota has leaned into this approach. Minnesota’s assisted living licensing framework allows care in small residential settings, including converted single-family homes, as an alternative to nursing homes, which helps explain why assisted living locations often appear clustered in ordinary residential neighborhoods. In recent years, Medicaid spending on home- and community-based services has grown to exceed institutional long-term care spending. That funding increasingly supports care for people with disabilities, people with serious mental illness, and older adults who receive long-term services in homes and community settings rather than in institutions. It would not be unusual for the administrative offices of multiple home-care providers to be located in the same office building, since the care itself occurs inside clients’ homes. Fraud can occur in any publicly funded system, but context about how care is delivered matters before drawing conclusions.
A new scam has just been uncovered in Minnesota Regular homes are being registered as assisted living facilities - In Minnesota assisted living facilities have seen 2x the growth of other programs - They are receiving 15x the payments of other programs - Shell companies used to create some of the facilities - The amount of new locations have exploded in Minnesota cities - Many owned by known money laundering scammers “This may look like your typical single family home but it bills itself as an assisted living facility and it receives a lot of taxpayer money. Here in Minnesota the number of people getting help in assisted living facilities is up double the growth of other programs. But here's the kicker, the rate of payment in this assisted living space is 10 to 15 times the growth in other programs. We pulled the data on assisted living facilities in the Minneapolis area. Minneapolis, as you might expect, has a lot. 169. - St. Paul, with a population of 307,000, has 83 - Brooklyn Center, 30,000 population, has 106 - Brooklyn Park, population of 84,000, has 181, more than Minneapolis a city five times its size. But this assisted living facility puts this all in perspective. It's owned by a man indicted for laundering a million dollars in the Feeding Our Future scam.” “These assisted living facilities received over $2.3 million in state money last year alone. A Minnesota Reformer article says he has been paid a whopping $49 million since 2016.”

Haphazard military interventions have historically not played out well and worn on the public. Trick for this year-end sequence of votes will be what's salient come election time, and failing to exercise a constitutional responsibility comes with a lot of risk
The Venezuela War Powers resolution has failed in a vote of 211-213, with nine members not voting. An absolute dereliction of duty from Congress.

It is wild how good Jon Bois is at putting long-form videos together. I wasn't invested at all in learning about the telegraph's history, hadn't thought about Home Improvement in many years, but I'm hooked. youtube.com/watch?v=zmyBSrQo…

This politics of vengeance and violence is leading us to increasingly darker places as a country
Rand said he didn’t expect anyone else to join his criticism of the strike: “people are very much afraid to have opinions right now.” Senate Armed Services Chair Roger Wicker said he “didn’t have any problem with it.” Fetterman: “when 100,000 Americans’ lives are taken through overdoses, now’s maybe the time to push back. I’m not saying blow up every single boat or anything”

This whole discourse about crime levels in DC feels to miss the point entirely - which is that on principle, POTUS should not impose the military indefinitely on a local jurisdiction or state for the purposes of combating crime or imposing order.
Citing a nonexistent crime crisis, Trump plans to take over the Washington DC police and put troops in the streets of the nation's capital. Contrary to his claims, violent crime in DC is at a 30-year low. @katierogers @campbellnyt @ChrisCameronNYT nytimes.com/live/2025/08/11/…

We're all in trouble when this tech proliferates to car brands the average worker can actually afford. (But truly a data and surveillance nightmare)
Microsoft and Mercedes‑Benz are working together to let people access Teams from the car. Benz is the first car maker to enable in-car camera use for Teams while a car is being driven. The companies are also partnering to integrate Microsoft 365 Copilot into vehicles.
