Despite all the money, fancy marketing and hype, Helen Zille actually underperformed expectations in Johannesburg, securing 35% compared to projections of 41–42%.
I think the DA is generally satisfied with the election results, but I suspect they were hoping for more.
Nationally, they're sitting at around 24%, below the 2016 result under Mmusi Maimane and well short of the 29% they were reportedly targeting.

News24 Sunday reports the ANC is ready to go into opposition in Jhb, Tswane and Ekhuruleni after the party failed to get a majority. DA can form a majority with ActionSA and “News24 understands ActionSA is offer DA Jhb and Ekhuruleni, but on condition that Helen must go”
