If you're a “decolonial” scholar waiting until you get tenure to denounce Israel’s genocidal settler-colonial project against Palestine, stop calling yourself decolonial. Stay complicit in your silence but don’t call yourself something you’re not.

People keep asking me how the strike is going; this sums it pretty well. What a disappointment. Then again, this is what I expected during a union sanctioned strike where the uaw is policing and suppressing any real disruption. – at Santa Cruz, CA

EXACTLY! Question who is benefitting from this acquisition, where the money is going, and also why Brown university and the people (NOT family) who had these belongings who are benefiting from this transaction. Call for the freedom of Mumia explicitly👊🏽 – at Santa Cruz, CA
when a private university-corporation-plantation “acquires” the papers of a still incarcerated black revolutionary & political prisoner do they also materially support organizing efforts to free them

*Why the aren’t explicitly calling for his freedom
“Abolitionist” researchers, if your research is extractive of Black and Indigenous individuals or communities, and gives nothing back to actually help those communities dismantle the system, then you are part of the problem.

Y’all are advancing in your academic careers at the expense of oppressed human beings and calling it social justice. You should go ahead and add Agent of the State to your CV.

Reflecting on this is a big reason why some of us don’t advance or succeed as expected in our academic careers. As scholars from oppressed backgrounds, we feel like imposters but also feel like we are siding with the enemy through academia. I hate it here.

Being the only brown woman working with a bunch of settlers be like: Am I being micromanaged, or am I being surveilled?👀

My best friend’s life was taken in 2020. I still grieve and hurt daily. Grief is complex and unclear in many ways. I honor her name, though it cuts to memorialize someone who should be here. Please share and spread the word about this scholarship. Keep Sylvia’s legacy alive.

We’re really living through fascism, a pandemic, war (even tho the war from 2001 kinda never stopped) poverty, inflation, exorbitant rent prices, low wages, and so many other things, and we’re just expected to be okay. I for one, am not

UCSC in a nutshell
This’s how racism is deeply ingrained in American institutions including universities. A university will make proclaim its commitment to diversity, declare a Day of Racial Healing, & still eliminate its Afri/African American Studies major while acting as if it’s all normal.
Im tired of the lengths we have to go to in academic writing to prove something is “missing” from history when it was clearly violently erased. Missing is passive. “Lost histories” - “forgotten histories” are passive. All denied histories.

"For him just to sit down and have a cup of coffee with me, he thought he was doing a random act of kindness. When he did that, he changed my life." Tom Rinaldi shares the story of former Lions LB Zack Follett and how a simple act of kindness from him saved a life.

Please support if you can! Students like myself have been supported through these grants. – at Santa Cruz, CA
As of today we have distributed more than $57,000 to archaeology students in need! The last few months have been particularly hard, donate if you can, spread the word if you cannot, & apply if you are in need. #MutualAid is not charity, it is cooperation, solidarity, & support.
