NGM hits the nail on the head here. Firing just Kelly and/or Murphy is putting a band aid on a bullet wound. If you want the team to change, then everyone from the GM down needs to get gone.
I continue to see people post, “Fire Don Kelly”, as a way to “hold the team accountable”.
If the Pirates miss the playoffs and Don Kelly is the only person let go, it will be the biggest scapegoat in team history.
Don’t forget what Travis Williams (Team President) said this past offseason.
“Playoffs. Period. Full stop.”
There’s no, “well we had injuries and a lot of regression from important players”. No excuses. The goal was not met. They failed.
Accountability is firing the Team President, along with the man he put in charge of making that happen, Ben Cherington.
