Breaking: We just won a big case for NC.
A new federal rule threatened health insurance for 60,000 of the sickest people in North Carolina - people with cancer, Parkinson’s, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, and other serious illnesses.
Here's how:
When Congress enacted new Medicaid work requirements, it specifically protected the sickest people. Congress didn’t want them losing their insurance while battling a serious illness.
But then the agency that runs Medicaid decided to ignore Congress and make it much harder to qualify for that protection. They basically put up a bunch of red tape for our sickest people and told them to figure it out or they’d lose their insurance.
So we sued, arguing that Congress created that protection and this agency doesn’t get to overrule Congress.
And we just won - the judge ruled for us without even needing a trial. That’s as early a win as we could hope for.
This is a big deal for tens of thousands of NC families who could have been financially devastated by sudden, enormous medical bills.
When we filed, I told people battling serious illnesses to focus on getting better and let us handle the legal fight.
Today, we won that fight. I hope that brings some peace of mind to families who already have more than enough on their plate.

Good news: One lane of NC 12 set to open Friday at 12p with flaggers.
Bad news: Two-way traffic not set to resume for weeks. Crews need time to install new sandbags on the dune side to prevent the road from being undermined by the overwash.

Bob Uecker's "I must be in the front row" Miller Lite ad became bigger than the commercial campaign itself. The spot dates to the early 1980s and fit Uecker's self-deprecating persona perfectly.
He could be a baseball broadcaster, actor and comedian without changing the character much at all. Nobody played the lovable guy who knew he wasn't the star better than Uecker.
