[Looking Ahead] Our prolonged stretchy of dry/tranquil weather continues for the rest of the week. It will be chilly tonight & cool on Wednesday. Milder temps return Thursday and especially Friday when highs may break 70 in many locations! Seasonable temps return for Halloween.

The future looks bright thanks to engaged students like those from @norwichnews who visited MEMA yesterday. They learned about emergency management and the extensive planning involved in preparing for @FWC26Boston. Best of luck to these students in their studies and careers! ✨

Mr. Trump has dominated American politics for more than a decade, and the Republican Party has been his eager accomplice in degrading the nation’s ideals. The American people have a chance over the next week to speak in a clear voice. If they do, they can allow the nation to glimpse the end of the Trump era and the start of something brighter. nytimes.com/2026/10/27/opini…

It is worth taking a moment to review the records of both Mr. Trump and congressional Republicans since he returned to office in January 2025. In a 21-month span, he has done more harm to democracy and the rule of law than any other president in the modern era and perhaps longer than that. He has broken his oath to defend the Constitution by trying to rewrite it on his own. He has refused to honor Congress’s power of the purse and misused national security laws for political ends. He has defied federal court orders on Medicaid funding, deportation orders and more. He has dismantled the Justice Department’s legacy as an impartial enforcer of federal law, turning it into an instrument of retribution against his adversaries while canceling investigations into his allies. He has appointed inept sycophants to oversee crucial government functions, including law enforcement, national defense and public health. He has sought to disenfranchise large numbers of voters, claiming fraud that cannot be found, and championed an extreme new approach to partisan gerrymandering. He has physically besmirched the White House by demolishing the East Wing and financing a garish renovation with donations from wealthy allies.

#Vote "We like to imagine that such horrific things don’t happen very often; sadly, that is not the case. There are many adults who, as children, suffered as #Acton suffered. You probably know some. Many of them, like Acton, have built lives of meaning, honor and achievement"
Which is it? Did it not happen, and the little girl lied, or did it in fact happen, and the little girl now can’t be a competent woman? | What the ad reflects is not a desperate tactic, but a depraved character. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

😁#midterms😣 "...in their statements defending and supporting the #Ramaswamy ad, the likes of #Vance and #Trump have made distinct claims – common, but contradictory – about the [#rape] from Acton’s childhood, and about what sexual abuse means." Moira Donegan, The Guardian

"I say that she's fair game": President Trump on Thursday praised the "very powerful ad" Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is running, featuring the estranged mother of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton, after the ad drew pushback from some Republicans, like Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. The ad features Acton's estranged mother, who called Acton a "liar" and sought to undermine her credibility. Acton's campaign condemned the ad. cbsn.ws/4yH1Lpk

Clear, precise headlines and summaries are crucial. Take the Vivek Ramaswamy ad targeting Dr. Amy Acton, which has been called “the most outrageous, indefensible ad” in US history and “one of the worst things you could possibly do to somebody who’s been a victim of sexual abuse.” Those quotes convey the grotesque point. Many of the headlines about the ad do not. I keep seeing headlines calling the ad “controversial,” but there’s gotta be a better way. This People magazine headline is much more direct and informative: “Amy Acton’s Stepfather Was Charged with Raping Her When She Was a Child. Now Her Ohio Election Opponent Is Using That Against Her.” people.com/amy-acton-stepfat…

There is nothing controversial about this. It is dead wrong. It is despicable. It is depraved. His attempt at gaslighting by claiming it had nothing to do with her sexual assault and was only about her lying is disgusting. He is unfit for any office.
