When applying for a new job, who do you list as references? #deafed #teaching
A7. (cont'd) We have had at least 1 transfer and 5 new eligibilities so far this year and have 3 more coming up. We just can't serve all these children across 12+ schools with only 2 teachers. 😢 #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren

A7. This is a tough one. I think it usually comes down to $. Our district used to have 4 TODHHs. Now we have 2. "You can cover those minutes with just two traveling teachers!" (cont'd) #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren

A6. Do👏 Not 👏Pity👏Deaf👏Children. They are kids. They can do anything other kids can do. The End. #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren

A5. (2/2) First time he had his @phonak Focus on was amazing. I wish I had taken a picture. You could see the amazement on his face. Unilateral deafness is too often overlooked and DOES impact kids! #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren
A5. Best highlight at work this year: 2nd grader FINALLY found eligible for #DeafEd services (parents have been trying since entering kindergarten). ASD also FINALLY recognized by school district. (1/2) #WhyITeachDeafChildren
A4. (cont'd) The field of #DeafEd can be a polarized one, even in today's age. It's a tough spot for sure. We need to focus on LANGUAGE for our students, no matter the mode of communication #WhyITeachDeafChildren

A4. #DeafEd isn't just "OMG ASL IS SO COOL 🥰🤟" I mean, it IS, but the whole field is much more than that. Children need allies to help them realize that they CAN. If you can be that person, be a teacher. #WhyITeachDeafChildren

A3. Parents need to know - from BIRTH - that #deafness does not limit a child. Language deprivation WILL. I encourage communication opportunities that fit their child's needs and abilities. I want to give them access to the world #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren

A2. (cont'd) I didn't want to be an interpreter (my brain and hands are not fast enough for that 😂) but had long thought about becoming a teacher. Found @FlaglerCollege online and knew I could combine the two! #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren

A2. I learned sign language as an infant from my (hearing) mother who learned "for fun" & immediately saw the benefits for early communication w/her hearing daughter. I took ASL classes in high school & fell in love with the language all over again #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren
A1. I love seeing "my kids" grow and learn! There's nothing better than seeing that "aha!" expression on their face. Either learning the word "raccoon" or solving a difficult chemistry equation, success is a great feeling for all involved #DeafEd #WhyITeachDeafChildren
I'm sad that I've not been able to participate LIVE in the #DeafEd twitter chats lately! But I'm gonna try my best to still answer the questions. :)
Was working on vocab with a 2nd grader. The word was "been." He wanted to do a @google image search. I tried to explain that you couldn't really "see" this word, but he wanted to try anyway. I was APPALLED at a few of the images that came up, even with safe search on! 🤬
Me: *looks at wall of staff inboxes for a solid minute* Secretay: Whose are you looking for? Me: *tells her* S: Third column, at the bottom. Me: *still can’t find it* S: *points to box literally right in front of me* Me: Haha I’m a mess! S: *doesn’t disagree* Me: 🤪🥴

Last week I wrote “WCC” on my plans for a student session, and now I have absolutely no idea what it means. 😳😂 #teacherlife #itinerantteacherlife #deafed #isitspringbreakyet

I am so thankful for principals who are supportive & flexible. As a traveling teacher for the past 10+ years I’ve encountered many administrators with many varying styles. So happy to have mostly very positive ones this year! 🙌🏻 #itinerantteacherlife #DeafEd #teacherlife
