My dad is the richest man that I’ve ever known: Not because of money but he’s rich in spirit and soul. His love for the city of Detroit, his passion for the youth, and his dedication to sports has allowed thousands of kids to pursue their dreams not only as basketball players but life in general. I’ve been blessed to share my dad with our community and build special bonds with all that he has encountered. I have so many brothers & sisters, nieces & nephews through his service for his city that it’s unimaginable. His selflessness, his compassion for all, and his determination to elevate his surroundings make him one of a kind. I never seen my Pops complain, I’ve never seen him quit at anything, and I’ve never seen him run away from a challenge. He instilled those same characteristics in every kid that walked through his doors for over 45 years.
My dad has had NBA players, HS All Americans, college All Americans, doctors, lawyers, business owners, blue collar workers, and white collar workers, come from his program and reflect those same characteristics.
His tree of basketball is still growing today as his great nephew is currently the number 1 ranked PG in the country. The gift that keeps on giving.
You can’t mention basketball in the city of Detroit without acknowledging my Pop’s influence. I’m just one of his many sons that he has influenced.
Thank you for allowing my dad to smell his flowers while he’s still around to enjoy it. Too often we wait until it’s too late to honor our community leaders. Pops got to feel and see all of the love. ❤️❤️

Better to ask me how many white school teachers I had, which was four. Huge benefit growing up in Detroit. All my teachers were Black. I had two white teachers in high school. And even when I attended private school briefly, it was Black owned. All Black staff.
