I found this bookstore on my travels two weeks ago. Unfortunately my trip was cut short because I broke my foot and had to return home. But I will be back!

Highly recommend reading the substack linked by the Atlantic author. More highlights:
- Boy protagonists are outnumbered in every category (except paranormal)
- Middle grade readers cite protagonist relatability as one of the top criteria for choosing a book
- Boys today care about covers. They want ones showing a boy, lots of action, or something intriguing. They're thinking, "is this a book I want to be seen with?"
- Boys also assume covers with girls on them automatically aren't for them
- Boys love books with a "mission" like spy and adventure series, fantasy quests, dystopian and survival, history, war, sports, and humor
- Girls do too, but in addition, they also prefer contemporary realistic books and romance

Pretty much.
They stop writing books for men and boys and then celebrate when the article talking about women reading more than men comes out, with a not so subtle implications that men are idiots.
Occam's razor. It’s not that heard to understand.
Male authors are being sidelined in the publishing industry, resulting in an overwhelming number of female protagonists on our shelves—and a dearth of male ones.
By policing who and what gets published, the hegemons of the publishing industry encourage one-sided stories that focus on the female experience and do not have much to bring to a male readership.
No wonder young men are no longer reading.

About 70% of publishing professionals are women.
Because agents and editors tend to select books they personally relate to, an increasing number of male authors are being sidelined in the publishing industry, resulting in an overwhelming number of female protagonists on our shelves—and a dearth of male ones.
No wonder young men are no longer reading.

Why is everything so ugly? A thread🧵👇
There has been a systematic persecution and removal of Beauty in the West in recent years. Why? Because real Beauty has the power to build up or destroy a society. The transcendental quality of beauty makes it a powerful linchpin to pull to hasten our societal downfall.
