"Politics" as a topic is extremely subjective. What some people think of as being an ordinary part of their life can be classed as political. Acts of kindness, learning and teaching historical context, treating people equally, making sure the people in your community know they are loved and safe - all these things can be seen as either normal things to do or they can be called political. I don't know if this was said out of a place of concern or wanting people to be safe. However, sometimes this can't be avoided. For some, their mere existence will be called political. People face threats every day for trying to live peacefully, or doing what they think is best to uplift others in their space. Oppressing yourself to suit the comforts of others or out of fear of what ifs can be worse than actually being oppressed by others.
