There’s an Institute for Addressing Strangulation??
Is this real???
Another pointless government quango. How many of these quangoes exist with people getting paid to run them?

New laws to tackle harmful pornography are now in force.
What happens online can have real-life consequences. These changes aim to prevent the normalisation of sexual violence and abuse, as part of our wider work to tackle violence against women and girls.

I spoke to @TheEconomist about the lack of evidence supporting UK's new porn ban. There is no evidence that a ban will improve any marker of health.

Porn is an unpopular thing to defend. Yet although England’s stricter rules will please moralists, they should alarm anyone who cares about freedom of speech or government overreach economist.com/leaders/2026/1…
Why is it every time I see some knuckle head shaming and berating men as porn addicts they’re always faith based and pushing God

It’s instructive my most liked post was me advising serving MP (and legislator) @CarolineVoaden of the importance of sexual consent education.
I said:
“You are correct about consent. Sex education is essential.”
This was in response to her comments on the new criminal offences commencing on the 6th of November under the Crime and Policing Act 2006, where she said:
“Since when was strangulation called ‘breath-play’?!
There is absolutely nothing playful AT ALL about someone trying to strangle you while having sex, when you didn’t ask for it, didn’t consent and are scared for your life.

Has the UK Government banned face sitting and fellatio in porn?
I'm quoted in @WIRED about the implications of the possession and suffocation offences commencing across the UK tomorrow.
“I would encourage both content creators and consumers to underscore the risks of this law,” says Myles Jackman, an obscenity lawyer in the UK.“Because to me, it genuinely seems like one of the greatest acts of suppression of free speech in global history.”
Jackman, the lawyer, says that he has no issue with the provision banning strangulation, as its risks are proven and there are existing laws banning strangulation in the UK. He cautions, however, that the law is written broadly enough that relatively innocuous content could also potentially be penalized.
“It would be up to a court to decide this on a case-by-case basis, but given that it would appear that face-sitting by a vagina owner is now arguably suffocation, the insertion of a penis could equally be considered suffocation because it blocks the airways,” he says. In other words, “the UK could have just banned blow jobs” in online pornography.
But even though the UK is, for the time being, an outlier, Jackman warns it may not be for long. He says he has heard of lawmakers in Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain discussing similar legislation, as well as members of the evangelical lobby in the United States.
“In terms of free speech,” he says, “the lights are going out across the globe.”’

I understand that @clips4sale have emailed some UK content creators saying:
“We’re reaching out because some of your clips are affected by new UK legislation taking effect November 6. We want to make sure you understand what’s changing, how it affects your store, and what options you have.”
They state they identified these clips since:
“We review both the video content and its details, including titles, tags, keywords, and descriptions. A clip may be flagged based on either the video itself or its metadata.”

The new criminal offences for possession and publication of extreme pornographic images under the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, as amended by the Crime and Policing Act 2026, have now commenced.

WARNING: I see @FetLife has updated their policies to: “restrict certain content from being viewed by people in the United Kingdom”.
On strangulation and suffocation images they state that:
“Pornographic pictures and videos that explicitly and realistically show one person strangling another (applying pressure to their neck) or suffocating them (blocking their breathing by covering their mouth and nose or compressing their chest).”
This appears to reference the MoJ Guidance:
gov.uk/guidance/crime-and-po…
This guidance states that:
“We consider that suffocation will generally mean depriving a person of air in a way that affects their ability to breathe.”
However, government guidance is not binding on a court in interpreting legislation; and Section 106 of the Crime and Policing Act 2026 does not define what constitutes suffocation or strangulation:
legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/202…
Nevertheless, FetLife’s given examples of what their restrictions on strangulation and suffocation images do not include are:
“Breath play done to yourself,
Hands resting on someone's neck without applying pressure,
Collars, chokers, or necklaces worn without applying pressure to the neck,
Rope wrapped around someone's neck without applying pressure,
Ball gags or other gags that don't restrict breathing,
Hoods or masks that don't restrict breathing,
Facesitting that doesn't restrict breathing,
Someone sitting or lying on another person's chest without restricting their breathing”.
BEWARE: these examples should not be relied upon, since it is for a court to decide, based on the images in question (the evidence) whether a possession or publication offence has been committed.

Good to see @TheEconomist saying: “Britain’s ban on some pornography is based on flimsy evidence”
It was a pleasure briefing @SonnyTLoughran on the potential consequences of this law.
He concludes:
“Where someone first sees something does not necessarily tell you why they want to do it. A study in Australia tested several variables to see what might predict whether an individual has a positive perception of choking during sex. Having seen choking in porn had little predictive value. Having previously tried choking or having discussed it with friends was much more likely to predict positive attitudes towards it. Other surveys find that the majority of sexual choking is consensual and pleasurable for those involved. Perhaps young people are choking each other during sex mostly because they like it”.
However, what we didn’t discuss is that an act of choking could amount to an offence of strangulation or suffocation under the Serious Crime Act 2015 (as amended by the Domestic Abuse Act 2021).
When people talk about astronomical amounts creators make on Only Fans I remember opportunities missed with performers who never became affiliates to sites by promoting their own scenes.
Affiliates did though

Laurence Fishburne's daughter Montana was 19 when she made a porn film. She said she was paid $25,000. Her father's friends offered $1 million to make it disappear.
They were too late. The DVDs had shipped, and the title on the cover carried his last name: "Montana Fishburne."
In the video below, she sits down with HLN. The host asks if she realizes that putting her last name on the cover reflects on her dad, Morpheus in The Matrix.
"It's my name also, and we are two separate people."
Vivid's Steve Hirsch told TMZ the first shipment sold out across the country, more than 25,000 copies, and that Vivid was offering her a multi-picture deal.
She grew up with "the best of the best: private schools, traveling all over the world," she told The Hollywood Reporter. By then she had moved out of her father's multimillion-dollar Hollywood Hills home.
The host calls Hollywood "one of the most nepotistic places on earth" and asks why not go that route.
"I've thought about it, but my passion is with this porn."
Her model was Kim Kardashian, whose tape Vivid also released. "Kim, she's beautiful, she has the world at her feet, and I hope to too."
Reports said Montana made upwards of $250,000. She wouldn't confirm it: "I made some money. It's keeping me in the place I live."
On HLN she says she hasn't heard from her father. "I'm not going to let hurting his feelings stop me from living my dream." Later she told The Hollywood Reporter he said he was embarrassed by her.
The case for Montana: she was an adult, and as she told VIBE, "there are hundreds of women in porn and they all have fathers." The case against: Vivid sold it under his last name.
Was Montana Fishburne cashing in on her own name, or on her father's?

I’m not a lawyer, and the official guidance still hasn’t been written. So I’ve gone through the new porn offences line by line, compared them with the Dreams of Spanking catalogue, and separated what seems clear from the places where we’re all still being asked to guess.
