Even my Riverdale-dwelling New York friends who fulminate with indignation at @AOC concede that Ms Ocasio-Cortez is the world’s coolest politician by far. In the UK only @DawnButlerBrent comes close.
My friend @AOC and I never back down. We deliver. We’re in this fight together — for every family in the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and all across New York.

Netanyahu is warning that Arab citizens of Israel are “racing to the ballots.” That’s called Democracy 101. Elections are a source of Israel’s strength — and help make it unique in the region. Arab citizens make up 20% of Israel. They have every right to vote. Netanyahu has built his career dividing Israelis instead of bringing them together. Today’s historically high turnout is something to celebrate. That’s democracy in action. reuters.com/world/middle-eas…

Qui fut le maître de Georges La Tour ? Cette question attend une réponse depuis 111 ans, depuis la redécouverte de l’artiste en 1915…. 💡Une hypothèse nouvelle ici: Georges Lallemant 👉 youtu.be/lYKWAAbC2nA?is=e-Dr…

Last night at the Passerine restaurant in New York City, at a fundraising dinner for the Asian American Writers Workshop, the writer Salman Rushdie said, “There is something going on in India right now. India is boiling. And I would feel wrong not to say—maybe not the thing to say in a restaurant—to celebrate the cockroach. Young people of India have given us the most hopeful moment for a very long time.”

A new piece from me on @NYMag is out today. It is the second installment in a reporting trilogy I’m calling “AI and the Chinese society.” Earlier this year, I visited China’s largest get-rich-with-AI company, which sells AI courses for profits. It has more than 80,000 paying members. Its meeting rooms have names like “Apostle of the Method” and “Evangelist.” Their membership system resembles a pyramid scheme. I was greeted by Mr. Tree, an in-house influencer and AI educator whose social media bio promises to “search for 100 business answers in the age of AI”—an echo of Beijing’s “AI Plus” plan. The company felt like a prosperity-gospel church, and salvation meant adopting AI as fast as you can. In Liangzhu, China’s vibe-coding capital, which I wrote about, young people give one another AI lessons for free in their living rooms. I also met Xiaokai, a 25-year-old filmmaker who became a pro on AI video generation through free classes, built a business earning several million yuan in profit, and now walks red carpets in Shanghai and Beijing. To understand this AI education craze, I found peoples’ fear of being left behind, their religious faith in education, and millions of ordinary people trying to find a place for themselves in a AI future Beijing is summoning on behalf of everyone. ----- Earlier this week, @KaiserKuo and I chatted about this trilogy on the great @SinicaPodcast in detail and some behind-the-scenes stories. You can listen to it now (links in the comments)! Also. Many thanks to my wonderful editor, Joy Shan; my fact-checker, Jessica Suriano; and some friends who read the draft and offered feedback.

The most forceful indictment yet of the complicity of the British Conservative Party and the governments it led between 2010 and 2024 not only in the appeasement of Vladimir Putin but also in the active encouragement of Russian influence in the UK.
Extraordinary letter in @ft from former UK defence attaché at Moscow embassy - we warned you about Putin but you listened to the City instead

When I was Ambassador to Japan, the reward was serving America and its interests abroad. How wrong I was… It turns out that $100,000 on your AmEx card does have its privileges: Private jets to Davos and Paris. The Four Seasons George V. Christmas and New Year’s in Gstaad. And the latest Trump perk of all: living above the law. But let’s be clear: it’s not just Kimberly Guilfoyle in Greece who is getting the rewards, our Italian ambassador is spending his time cruising around the Mediterranean on a $450 million yacht. The Trump Administration may not want you to see anything about these privileges in writing. But Americans see them anyway. They're sick of paying for Trump corruption — and they're ready to show up on November 3rd to send a message to Trump and his cronies that won't be encrypted. wsj.com/politics/policy/at-d…
