Things that need trolling: authoritarian governments, corrupt multinationals, abusive "leaders". Who do weak sycophants harass? Vocal women.
The good kind of conference driven development: identified a documentation hole based on a talk, posted a PR that evening to close it. #kiwipycon
For anyone curious, the addition is a new "See also" block for concurrent.futures at the start of the threading docs (and a similar addition in multiprocessing): docs.python.org/3/library/th…
The scientific hierarchy of coding needs described by @Sydonahi is honestly pretty similar to what commercial software needs (just replacing scientific impact with business/bottom line impact in guiding the investment of time) #kiwipycon
The hierarchy in question:

Keynote on day 3 of #KiwiPycon:
@Sydonahi asks "what does your hierarchy of coding needs look like?" and consider that when sharing your "good enough" code with the community, because if you got value out of it, chances are someone else will too 💕
High praise indeed from Tom Clark at #kiwipycon: "Context managers are no more complicated than they need to be" :)

contextlib2 21.6.0 has been released, updating the API to match Python 3.10 (including all the previously omitted asynchronous features from 3.7+): pypi.org/project/contextlib2…
If you like & recommend @AlSweigart's "Automate the Boring Stuff with Python" as an introduction to Python for beginners, nostarch.com/beyond-basic-st… is well worth a look as a "next step" book to help build folks build their debugging and code design skills
Migrated my Hg repos from BitBucket to GitHub in advance of the sunset. Thanks to:
* the git-hg authors (for the actual VCS conversion)
* the hg convert extension authors (for cleaning out .git dirs that ended up in the hg repos)
* stackoverflow.com/a/52313931… for the .git dir fix

If you want to be a part of making PyCon AU happen, our specialist track call for proposals is open. You select the program, we'll help you bring it to life! PyCon AU is 5–7 Aug in Adelaide, CFP closes 24 Feb. 2020.pycon.org.au/program/
If the researchers can get it to work, this would be an amazing resource: gousios.gr/blog/Introducing-…
It seems plausible that they'll be able to get it to a "accurate enough to be useful" state, even though 100% accuracy is likely unattainable (at least for dynamic languages).

(It's a thoroughly non-obvious consequence of floor division rounding towards negative infinity, and Python's binary right-shift operation on integers being defined in terms of floor division by powers of two)
After a 7 month hiatus, I'm finally getting back to working on my Python locals() semantics cleanup PEP's reference implementation. Current status: segfault in test_sys_settrace resolved, new segfault in test_asyncio introduced. This counts as progress, yes?

Non-LinkedIn version of the announcement: nitter.gq/IONITY_EU/status/12043… (the LinkedIn one had the specific thanks for the Tritium folks supporting the development & testing activities)
