Oh my goodness. I don’t want to hear the criticism if the Dream can’t fill up the arena.
After a weekend of nonstop frantic discussions and negotiation, Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be played Thursday at 12:30 pm at 17,000-seat State Farm Arena in Atlanta, sources told ESPN.
The Atlanta Hawks-Cleveland Cavaliers game that night will move back to 8 pm to accommodate the doubleheader, just as the Hawks did for Game 4. This allows a potential Game 7 to remain scheduled for Halloween at Chase Center in San Francisco.
All three Finals games in Atlanta have required hurried adjustments to the schedule at State Farm Arena. It took collective efforts from the WNBA, NBA, the Hawks, State Farm Arena, Dream, Valkyries and broadcast partners to figure out the best course of action again.
By moving the game earlier in the day, the WNBA avoided a scenario where a potential championship game was played inside the Dream’s home arena, the 3,500 seat Gateway Center.
The other option under strong consideration was moving Game 6 to an open date at State Farm Arena on Friday and Game 7 to an open date at Chase Center on Tuesday, November 3.
On this day in North Carolina history October 26, 1895.
North Carolina helped change football forever, and it happened because a desperate player broke the rules.
UNC was playing Georgia in Atlanta when fullback Joel Whitaker faced a Georgia rush that threatened to block his punt. Instead of kicking the ball, he threw it forward to teammate George Stephens.
Stephens caught it and ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
Georgia's coach, legendary Pop Warner, protested. The forward pass was illegal, but the referee never saw the throw. The touchdown stood, and UNC won 6 to 0.
The forward pass wouldn't become legal until 1906.
Think about that the next time you watch a quarterback throw a touchdown. A play that helped shape modern football started with a desperate decision by a Tar Heel.
North Carolina history is full of stories like this one. 🏈
They should have done a 2-3-2. There were no conflicts with the Hawks and Warriors if Game 5 had been played in Atlanta and Game 6 in San Francisco.

I thought people didn’t care about the small market Brewers and Rays? I was told the ratings would be bad!

The number is inaccurate because viewership for Game 1 of the World Series has not yet been released.

Just a friendly reminder this morning that the school in Raleigh was the tie breaker to vote in Stanford into the ACC.
Joe is in mourning that the Brewers swept away his Dodgers
Why wouldn’t they? They are in the same metropolitan area. The Braves support the Falcons and the Falcons support the Braves….and that’s hard for me sometimes because I’m a Panthers fan but I get it. I live in NC, not GA.

The Braves were headed to the World Series 🥲

I’d be pissed off too, it’s taking viewership away from their channels, but the station groups knew what they were getting into
Big story in the world of media and sports:
ABC affiliates are not happy with Disney’s extreme multi platform plan to showcase and monetize the Super Bowl.
Story here:

Gray Media: Signs local deals with several NBA teams including the Hawks for TV rights, and also the Hornets for out of town rights in nearby markets.
Also Gray Media: Doesn’t bother to show national NBC game on main channels.
Make it make sense.
