German government deems hosting Ice Hockey World Championship with Russia "practically impossible"
The German federal government has effectively ruled out the possibility of hosting the Ice Hockey World Championship next May if the Russian national team is permitted to participate.
Due to widespread opposition from other nations, as well as from business and media partners, "hosting the tournament becomes practically impossible from both a sporting and an economic perspective," stated government spokesperson Steffen Cornelius. He made these remarks at a press conference following consultations between Berlin, the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB), the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
According to Cornelius, serious threats of a boycott from several countries—including the reigning world champions, Finland—indicate that "the international ice hockey community does not accept Russia’s return, even in light of the ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)." Furthermore, several sponsors of the World Championship have indicated that they would withdraw their support should the Russian team take part.
Meanwhile, DEB board chairman Frank Lutz has acknowledged the possibility that Germany might relinquish its status as the tournament's host. "Our goal is to hold the tournaments as planned. However, if Russia is admitted and boycotts ensue, that becomes practically impossible," Cornelius noted. "Therefore, we now intend to explore options through negotiations that might still allow the tournament to take place."

Unser Post über die Löschfahrzeugübernahme von der Insel Föhr hatte auf X und Blueskay ca. 3.500 Views. Wir haben viele positive, teils sogar begeisterte Reaktionen von Euch bekommen. 340 Likes und 100 Reposts sind schon beachtlich. Und da ist der Bericht vom #InselRadioFöhr noch gar nicht erschienen.
Aktionen wie diese sind nur möglich, wenn sie auch von finanziellen Spenden begeleitet werden. Allein der Diesel kostet zur Zeit Unsummen und der Kaufpreis muss auch irgendwie refinanziert werden. Wenn ihr könnt, unterstützt bitte diesen Spendenaufruf.

Wir haben heute unser nächstes Feuerwehrfahrzeug auf Föhr abgeholt. Hauke heißt es. Das Auto, ein TLF 16/25 mit 2500 l Löschwasser haben wir regulär gekauft und dafür 4.900 Eur bezahlt. Die Feuerwehr Utersum-Dunsum-Hedehusum hat sich aber voll ins Zeug gelegt, um uns ein ganz starkes Signal der Solidarität zu geben. Sie haben auf ganz Föhr unter allen Feuerwehren eine Sammelaktion gestartet und uns das Auto vollgepackt mit Ausrüstung. Das Material stammt von insgesamt drei Inselwehren. Darunter sind Helme, Jacken, Atemschutzgeräte, Löscharmaturen und eine Steckleiter. Um unsere Aktion zu pushen, haben sie die Feuerwehrmitglieder und den Bürgermeister eingeladen und das Inselradio Föhr informiert, die über die Aktion berichten werden. Dabei haben sich unglaublich hilfreiche Perspektiven aufgetan, über die wir zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt berichten werden.
Hauke wird jetzt noch mit Schläuchen ausgestattet und geht dann vermutlich im Dezember an eine ukrainische Feuerwehr, die bis dahin einen Totalverlust durch Drohnenangriff erleidet. Wenn jemand eine Wehr kennt, die einen aktuellen Verlust nachweisen kann, sind wir gerne ansprechbar.
Wir durchleben schwierige Zeiten. Und manchmal ist es schwer. Aber heute sind wir einfach nur ergriffen. Und wir sind froh, dass wir für die Ukraine so viel bewegen können. Danke für die außergewöhnliche Unterstützung von der Insel Föhr. Slava Ukrainii!
