there’s focus on them playing “dig dig”, alluding to the tunnels will was building around hawkins.
in s5, derek is seen playing “ghosts and goblins”, a game where famously after defeating the final boss at the end of your first playthrough, you are hit with a message revealing that your adventure was just an illusion and you are forced to start the entire game over again from the very first level. to see the true ending, you must play through the game a second time on a noticeably higher difficulty level. #
