Leaked comments reveal Mossad provoked mass Iranian arrests to protect covert agents —— Former Mossad director David Barnea claims that Israeli intelligence deliberately publicized video footage of covert operations inside Iran to trigger mass arrests, using Iranian citizens to shield its actual operational network. According to leaked comments published by The Jerusalem Post and video footage verified by Yedioth Ahronoth, Barnea admitted during a closed-door address at the Priority Summit that the Israeli spy agency intentionally released real-time footage during the June 2025 military confrontation to overwhelm Iranian security forces. Barnea explained that Mossad sought to provoke sweeping detentions so that Iranian counterintelligence "wouldn't be able to distinguish the wheat from the chaff.". The former intelligence chief claims that a vast majority of those swept up by Iranian authorities under espionage charges had no operational connection to Mossad. This claims mean that Israel intentionally manufactured conditions designed to spark systemic panic within Iran, and that Israeli intelligence calculatedly exposed ordinary Iranian citizens to potential detention to preserve its own intelligence assets working covertly within Iran.

What former Mossad chief David Barnea has revealed is a shocking admission of an intelligence operation that knowingly put 1000s of innocent Iranians at risk of imprisonment, torture, and execution, all to protect Israeli agents operating inside Iran. According to @Jerusalem_Post, Barnea acknowledged that Mossad deliberately publicized footage of its covert operations inside Iran during the June 2025 war, intending to provoke mass arrests and overwhelm Iranian security forces. “We wanted to make sure they arrested so many people in Iran that they wouldn’t be able to distinguish the wheat from the chaff,” he said. Barnea claimed that Iranian authorities arrested 21,000 people on the 2nd day of the war. He also acknowledged that many of those arrested or executed as alleged Mossad agents had nothing to do with the agency, while nearly all actual Mossad operatives escaped capture. Think about the extraordinary cruelty of that calculation. Israeli intelligence officials understood the nature of the govt they were dealing with: a repressive state with a documented record of arbitrary detention, torture, forced confessions, and executions. Yet, according to Barnea’s own account, they deliberately sought to exploit those very practices, making ordinary Iranians the expendable human cost of protecting their operatives. I think about the 1000s of families who may have been caught between an Israeli intelligence operation and an Iranian security apparatus gripped by fear of infiltration. The fathers and mothers of whose children disappeared into detention centers. The young people whose only political involvement may have been protesting for a better life. The students, workers, and ordinary citizens who could suddenly find themselves accused of collaborating with a foreign intelligence service. For them, an arrest is not a temporary inconvenience in an intelligence game. It can mean months or years in prison, torture, a coerced confession, a destroyed future, or a death sentence. Human rights organizations have documented how Iranian authorities used the war to intensify repression, including mass arrests and executions on allegations of espionage and collaboration with Israel. The Iranian government bears direct responsibility for every arbitrary arrest, every act of torture, and every unlawful execution. Nothing Israel did absolves Tehran of those crimes. But Israel cannot escape scrutiny and accountability for deliberately engineering conditions in which it knew innocent people could become targets of that repression. What Barnea describes is not simply clever intelligence work. It raises profound questions about the deliberate exploitation of foreseeable harm to civilians in pursuit of military and intelligence objectives. And perhaps the most disturbing part is the apparent indifference to what happened to those people afterward. For Mossad, the measure of success was whether its agents survived and escaped detection. For Iranian families, the consequences could last a lifetime. The lives of ordinary Iranians are not disposable assets in an intelligence operation. Their imprisonment, suffering, and deaths cannot be dismissed as the acceptable price of protecting foreign agents.. International humanitarian law does not give intelligence agencies a free pass to deliberately expose civilians to foreseeable harm. If Mossad intentionally provoked mass arrests in Iran, knowing that innocent people could face torture, imprisonment, or execution, this raises serious questions of international legal responsibility, including potential complicity in war crimes. As I said, Iranian government bears direct responsibility for its repression, but that does not absolve Israeli officials of responsibility for deliberately exploiting it. The lives of innocent civilians cannot be treated as expendable assets in an intelligence operation. This revelation deserves serious scrutiny, independent investigation. jpost.com/middle-east/iran-n

The West has a remarkable talent for manufacturing its own enemies. Mohammad Mossadegh was Iran’s democratically elected prime minister. His crime was not abolishing elections or erecting concentration camps. His crime was insisting that Iranian oil should primarily benefit Iranians rather than foreign corporations. So Britain and the United States helped overthrow him, replacing democracy with the Shah’s dictatorship. Every lecture about freedom delivered since then has had to compete with the memory of 1953. The pattern never really changed. Democracy is applauded when it delivers governments aligned with Western interests. When voters choose the wrong people, democracy suddenly becomes optional. Coups, sanctions, dictators, invasions, then bewilderment when the puppet eventually falls and something far more hostile takes its place. Western hegemony has spent decades killing democracy abroad, only to discover that the regimes it installs are eventually overthrown as well. Few geopolitical strategies have been so spectacularly self-defeating.

Reporting from Paris, Israeli "journalist" Neria Kraus, of i24 News (Channel 15), interviewed "Ali", suposedly a local resident whose parents are from Baghdad. Well, it turns out that "Ali" is actually Hezi Gangina, an Israeli tourist who lives in the South Tel Aviv neighborhood of Kfar Shalem, built on the ruins of the Palestinian village of Salama.

Saudi Arabia has been executing dissidents, jailing journalists, and conducting a war in Yemen that has produced one of the worst humanitarian crises on earth. Britain, France, and America have sold it weapons throughout. Not reluctantly. Not with conditions. Enthusiastically, with trade delegations and arms fairs and billions in contracts. The same governments that speak about Muslim extremism as an "existential threat" to "Western values" are the primary suppliers of the regime that funds the specific theological tradition, Wahhabism, most associated with the extremism they claim to be fighting. This is not a paradox. It is a policy. The extremism is useful. The weapons sales are profitable. The humanitarian crisis in Yemen is not a television story in most Western countries. If you want to understand Islamophobia, not as a cultural accident but as a political function, start here. Start with who benefits from a population that fears Islam in the abstract and cannot see the arms deal in the specific.

The French Revolution was violent. Extraordinarily, horrifyingly violent. And from it came the Declaration of the Rights of Man, the legal abolition of feudalism, the first significant codification of liberty, equality, and fraternity as political principles rather than philosophical abstractions. Ideas that spread across Europe and eventually the world. Ideas that are now the foundational vocabulary of the very people who condemn revolutionary violence. The discomfort is not with the violence. The discomfort is with the reminder that the values they consider self-evident were not given. They were seized. From people who were not planning to hand them over.
